The National Cancer Institute (NCI), the largest Institute at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is pleased to invite applications from qualified candidates for a one-year post-doctoral position in the area of evaluation with an emphasis on transdisciplinary research and collaboration.
This is a full-time position within the Behavioral Research Program of the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute and will be based in their Rockville, Maryland office. The position will allow the applicant to interact with a large number of scientists representing the disciplines of medicine, basic sciences, psychology, epidemiology, public health, nursing, social work, sociology, and medical anthropology at the NCI, the NIH and at institutions around the country.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary responsibility for assisting in all aspects of the Evaluation of Large Initiatives (ELI) project in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences of the National Cancer Institute. The recipient of this position will:
· manage all information connected to the project; prepare information for and take part in all project team meetings;
· collect and analyze data pertaining to transdisciplinary processes and outcomes at existing and/or newly emerging NCI transdisciplinary research centers;
· develop and submit manuscripts reporting results from ongoing research projects;
· provide consultative input and expertise on all matters;
· assist the team in developing and presenting training modules at professional meetings, NIH-wide conferences, and NCI Research Centers retreats;
· help with the development and implementation of new transdisciplinary collaboration assessment tools and the refinement of existing protocols for measuring transdisciplinary collaboration processes and outcomes;
· assist team members with the editing of manuscripts submitted for journal supplements and monographs focusing on topics related to the science of team science; and
· assist team members in developing and maintaining an NCI-based web site that would offer transdisciplinary research assessment tools, prior publications, and other resources for public access;
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in program evaluation or related applied management or a social science research area is desired. The candidate should have a strong interest in program evaluation methods applied within the context of ?big science' initiatives. Knowledge and experience in program evaluation and evaluation research is preferred, though training in this area will be supported. Candidates must have familiarity with a broad array of social research methods and demonstrate expertise in and understanding of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. The candidate also must demonstrate understanding of the organizational context for evaluation and of the different ways evaluation procedures can be integrated into that context. Strong interpersonal skills are required as this is a collaborative, team-based effort. The candidate must be a self-starter who is comfortable taking the initiative and who can play a major role in helping to bring several projects to completion.
In order to qualify for the position, the candidate must be a U.S. citizen or resident alien. A candidate with an I-551 stamp in their passport can also qualify since this is temporary verification of permanent residency status pending issuance of the green card. Individuals with "Employment Authorization" documents (EADs) do not meet eligibility criteria.
Stipend/Benefits:
This position is a one-year full-time Cancer Research Training Award (CRTA) position that will start whenever a candidate has been identified. There is a possibility for yearly renewals. Stipend is commensurate with relevant work experience and education. The stipend range for those with a doctoral degree is $40,800 to $63,300, depending on education and experience. Health benefits are available. Some flexibility in work hours will be allowed. Participation in conferences and continued training in evaluation methods is encouraged and supported.
