Responsibilities
The Biostatistics and Biomathematics Department in the Public Health Sciences Division is recruiting a postdoctoral associate to develop statistical methods and algorithms for analyzing a genome-wide association study. This genome-wide scan is an NCI funded multiple-year project with the goal to identify susceptibility genes associated with cancer risk and to investigate interaction between genes and environmental factors. The postdoctoral research associate will work with faculty-level biostatisticians and epidemiologists to implement new or modify existing algorithms for a broad application to the data.

The qualified individual works with biostatisticians and other scientists (including epidemiologists and basic scientists) in the analysis, interpretation and reporting of results. Primary responsibilities are developing methods, designing and implementing (programming) algorithms, and performing data analyses for genome-wide association studies.

Major Duties
• Develop statistical methods for analyzing genomic data

• Implement computational algorithms for analyzing data.

• Test and debug new and modified programs and applications.

• Generate a variety of reports as required.

• Analyze a genome-wide association study

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in biostatistics, statistics, computer science, applied math, math, or related field is required. Strong programming skills with R and SAS and experience working with LINUX are required. Experience with statistical and computational methods for the analysis of complex, high-dimensional genotype data is desirable, as is knowledge of C, FORTRAN, PERL or PYTHON. To be successful in this position, the postdoctoral associate must be detail-oriented, have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must have demonstrated the ability to work independently and take initiative in a diverse environment.
