Connecticut: Pre-Doctoral Fellowships in Cancer Epidemiology, Yale University

Yale University – National Cancer Institute

*Pre-Doctoral Fellowships in Cancer Epidemiology*

*The Yale University – National Cancer Institute Partnership Training Program in cancer epidemiology is a unique training program that is accepting applications for student matriculation in September 2009. This program partners Yale University's School of Public Health (YSPH) with the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology and
Genetics (DCEG). The program will support students (tuition plus stipend) while they train in modern methodologies for evaluating lifestyle determinants of human cancer risk, with an emphasis on nutritional, environmental, and occupational determinants, including their interactions with genetic factors. Pre-doctoral students selected into this unique training program will be jointly mentored by Yale investigators and NCI investigators. Students will receive didactic instruction at the Yale School of Public Health, as students in the Yale University Graduate School. Coursework will emphasize methods training in epidemiology and biostatistics, with content training in a variety of areas including cancer epidemiology, nutritional epidemiology, environmental / occupational epidemiology, molecular and genetic
epidemiology, and cancer biology. At the end of the didactic experience, students will take qualifying exams at Yale, and then prepare a dissertation prospectus. Dissertation research is conducted at the NCI in collaboration with Yale faculty, with access to an extensive
portfolio of research and resources available through the NCI DCEG. Yale University will award the Ph.D. upon successful completion of the program. Eligible applicants include U.S. citizens, non-citizen nationals, or permanent residents.

Please see http://publichealth.yale.edu/nci/index.html for more information about the training program including application instructions (deadline **December 15, 2008 for this cycle**). Applications from minority students are particularly encouraged.** *
