(
www.rochesterpreventsuicide.org)

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP IN SUICIDE PREVENTION RESEARCH

The UR/CSPS is pleased to announce the availability of positions for postdoctoral training in suicide prevention research. The UR/CSPS postdoctoral training program is supported by an institutional National Research Service Award training grant from NIMH (Yeates Conwell, MD, Program Director). It provides up to three years of stipend support and related benefits for early career investigators committed to careers in suicide prevention research. Each fellow works closely with a primary mentor, takes courses and participates in a diverse array of CSPS research and training activities. Mentors and consultants are available from a wide range of experts both at UR and at other institutions around the U.S. and the world who are affiliated faculty of the UR/CSPS NIH-funded Developing Center on Public Health and Population Interventions for the Prevention of Suicide (PHP-Center).

The emphasis of UR/CSPS research is on the development and testing of interventions across the full spectrum of approaches to suicide prevention – universal, selective, and indicated. Faculty and fellows are currently engaged in projects that target populations across the life course.

Because the training program is supported by a grant from NIMH, to be eligible one must be a US citizen or permanent resident. Trainees with backgrounds in psychiatry or other relevant medical specialties, nursing, psychology, social work, or public health are best suited to this opportunity.

Applications require submission of a c.v., statement of career goals and interests, a sample of scholarly writing, academic transcripts, and three letters of recommendation by individuals familiar with the candidate’s academic performance.

Members of under-represented minority groups are strongly encouraged to apply. Please address inquiries to:

Hispanic-Serving Health Professions Schools (HSHPS), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, was established in 1996 with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in response to Executive Order 12900, “Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.” The organization was launched as a part of the “Hispanic Agenda for Action Initiative” and is the only national organization representing Hispanic-serving health professions schools. Today, HSHPS represents 25 medical schools and schools of public health nationwide serving over 40% of Hispanic medical school graduates and nearly 1 out of every 6 Hispanic schools of public health graduates in the continental United States as well as a broader network of more than 300 researchers who address health issues among Hispanics.
Over the past several years, HSHPS has collaborated with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the world’s premier public health agency, to provide academic and professional development training to minority students and recent graduates who are interested in improving the health status of Hispanics across the country. The goal of the training programs is to increase overall knowledge of public health and to provide the necessary tools needed to enhance trainees’ careers in medicine and public health.
