Mass Media and Science Engineering Fellowship program, American Association for the Advancement of Science

The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) recently
released the Mass Media and Science Engineering Fellowship program.
Increasing public understanding of science and technology is a principal
goal of AAAS, so it only makes sense that it recognized the need for
scientists who are well versed in communicating complex ideas to a
general audience. The AAA Mass Media Science and Engineering Fellows
program has thrived in this endeavor for more than 30 years.

The 10-week summer program places graduate and post-graduate level
science, engineering and mathematics students at media organizations
nationwide. Fellows have worked as reporters, editors, researchers and
production assistants as such media outlets as the Chicago Tribune, Los
Angles Times, national Public Radio, Sacramento Bee, and Scientific
American. Participants come in knowing the importance of translating
their work for t he public, but they leave with the tools and the
know-how to accomplish this important goal.

The application and additional program information is available online at
http://www.aaas.org/programs/eeucation/Massmedia/apply.shtml. The
deadline is January 15, 2008 for the summer 2008 program.

NIH/NCI: Postdoctoral fellow: Methods for Epidemiology and Genetics Studies

Postdoc: Methods for Epidemiology and Genetics Studies
Email me jobs like thisEmployer: National Cancer Institute (NCI)
All jobs at National Cancer Institute (NCI)
Location: Bethesda, MD, United States

Description:
I am looking for a postdoc who is interested in design and analysis of epidemiologic studies and who is comfortable with allowing applications to motivate methodologic research. I play a key role on a number of exciting substantive projects. These include several genome-wide association studies, cohort and case-control studies that address questions related to prevention and etiology of disease and to clinical practice, and a randomized trial. Each project raises methodologic questions that are challenging and important beyond the specific application. Solving these problems in a way that will improve the science can be fun, worthwhile, and professionally rewarding.

In addition to strong quantitative skills, this position requires either knowledge of methods for epidemiologic or genetic association studies or solid statistical training.

This position is subject to a background investigation.

The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs.
How to apply:
http://www.training.nih.gov/webforms/postdoctoral/application/AdIndex.aspx?PodAdID=PD-4130

Please note: There is a limit on the number of postdoctoral fellowship applications one may submit through the NIH site. Individuals may submit up to ten (10) applications per 12-month period. Each application one submits counts toward his/her total; there is no way to "retract" an application once it is submitted. For these reasons, the NIH Office of Intramural Training and Education (OITE) urges each would-be applicant to be discriminating when choosing to apply for a fellowship.

Boston, MA: Deland Fellowship Program in Health Care and Society (operations of academic/community-based medical center), Brigham and Women's Hospital

Deland Fellowship Program in Health Care and Society

Company/Organization: Brigham and Women's Hospital

Location: BOSTON, MA, USA

Status: Full Time

Job Description

Position Description:
The Deland Fellowship Program in Health Care and Society prepares professionals to be leaders of tomorrows health care institutions. During this one-year fellowship, appointees develop the skills and sensitivities fundamental to the operations of an academic and community-based medical center.

The program is based at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a world leader in patient care, medical education and research, and a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. The fellowship experience is further enhanced by the hospital's membership in the Partners HealthCare System, founded by Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital. This integrated system, the largest in the Boston area, is advancing the field of health care through collaborative clinical programs, teaching and research initiatives.

The program is a distinctive and unique learning opportunity. Through project-based learning guided by senior management, Deland fellows focus on effective ways to bridge the worlds of medicine and administrative management. Fellows pursing administrative roles gain understanding of the clinical aspects of healthcare; and clinician fellows explore the principles of management, operations and finance.

Deland fellows work with senior faculty and staff at Brigham and Womens Hospital. The project-based program is tailored to the fellows' background and interests.

Opportunities for study include:

* Hands-on exposure to clinical work, including physician and nursing rounds, observing clinical procedures and quality rounds;
* Experience in management, finance, operations, marketing and community relations;
* Experience working within an integrated health care system of academic and community-based hospitals;
* Participation in meetings of senior leaders and assignments to special projects under their guidance.

Unlike other administrative residencies and fellowships, the Deland Fellowship is very flexible and therefore is well suited to mid-career applicants who may have had experiences in other fields. Former Deland fellows have come from a variety of positions and disciplines within the health care field.

Compensation
Fellows are provided a competitive salary and benefits package, commensurate with their experience, for the duration of the program. Additionally, reimbursement will be provided for one healthcare conference of choice during the 12-month program.

Application Procedure:
Interested applicants should submit a completed application, which can be downloaded from the Deland fellowship website, by the first Monday of November (11/05/07). Complete applications must be submitted electronically to bwhdeland@partners.org by the deadline and must include the following items:

1. Completed application form
2. Copy of curriculum vitae
3. List of individuals to provide references
4. Candidates statement (application provides additional information)

Applicants will be notified in November if they have been selected for an interview in Boston in December. Finalists will be notified by December 31st. The fellowship will begin on or around July 1st.
