Visiting Assistant Professor in Epidemiology
The University of Massachusetts Amherst, School of Public Health and Health Sciences (www.umass.edu/sphhs/) is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position in Epidemiology. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years.
Position: The successful candidate will join the faculty in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the Department of Public Health, with an anticipated start date of September, 2007. Responsibilities will include teaching, primarily at the graduate level; research; and advising masters and doctoral students enrolled in MS, MPH and PhD programs. Candidates will be expected to develop their own research program and engage in collaborative research. The Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology consists of five epidemiologists and six biostatisticians actively engaged in research and teaching. Division members collaborate extensively with faculty from the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, other departments on campus, the University’s Medical School, and Baystate Medical Center. Present areas of epidemiologic research include cancer, nutrition, genetics, and reproductive health. The University is located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, which is home to five colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts) and has easy access to several major metropolitan areas.
Qualifications: Candidates for the position must meet the following requirements:
• Ph.D. in Epidemiology or equivalent degree
• Interest in and strong potential for teaching at the graduate level
• Evidence of independent and collaborative research potential
