Position Description: : Serves as coordinator of Hepatitis A and B prevention immunization activities, including IG inventory management and distribution and the Hepatitis B perinatal program. Designs, develops, analyzes, and reports survey data related to the Vaccine for Adults at Risk of Hepatitis program, and the perinatal Hepatitis B program.

Employee provides technical assistance and conducts and/or participates in field epidemiologic investigations of disease outbreaks by conferring with local health departments and health care providers, reviewing reports of positive laboratory tests, and discussing diagnostic criteria and treatment regimens. Employee develops epidemiologic study data collection instruments and participates in interviewing subjects associated with disease outbreaks as needed. Employee provides education and recommendations regarding control of disease outbreaks based on results of field epidemiologic investigations and State and Federal guidelines. Participates in the Epidemiologist on-call rotation.

Develops and implements studies to assess immunization rates among children in Kansas. Evaluates the potential need for changing or updating the design of studies. Produces a report of the study results in both written and oral formats. Presents report to local health department administrators and other internal and external partners and/or consultants.  As an epidemiologist for the immunization program, incumbent will develop and implement, in conjunction with the Senior Epidemiologist, special projects and studies designed to assist in strategic planning and evaluation of immunization programs and other activities related to prevention and control of vaccine-preventable diseases. Presents results of special projects and studies in both oral and written formats to local, state, and national audiences.

Perform other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications: Required: Advanced Epidemiologist: MPH/MS and independent work experience as an epidemiologist.
Preferred: Ability to coordinate outbreak investigations. Knowledge of vaccine- preventable diseases. Knowledge of and ability to apply the use of computers for the manipulation, analysis, and management of epidemiological data. Ability to conduct comprehensive analyses on surveillance data and other information for the purposes of determining the need for epidemiological investigations. Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain favorable relationships with colleagues and outside partners. Knowledge of incubation periods, periods of communicability, common modes of transmission, and public health significance of all communicable diseases.

This position will require travel. Any employee operating a vehicle on official state business must possess a valid State of Kansas drivers license.
