Position Description: As an Epidemiologist in the Environmental & Occupational Health Program you will be responsible for providing epidemiology support for public health surveillance of childhood and adult lead poisoning, carbon monoxide poisoning, and other environmental related diseases in support of the Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Qualifications: A Masters Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field – or – a Bachelors Degree in Epidemiology or closely related field – and – two (2) years professional experience in epidemiology. You should have knowledge of principles and practices of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, sampling theory, health data collection, risk factors associated with environmental and/or chronic diseases, and medical terminology. Preference will be given to candidates with related advanced degrees.
Organization Description: The Maine Department of Health and Human Services provides supportive, preventive, protective, public health and intervention services that protect the public health and assist our customers in meeting their needs. The Environmental and Occupational Health Program is located within the Division of Environmental Health in the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The Program undertakes surveillance of environmentally related diseases, identifies health problems related to environmental factors, investigates whether particular health problems are related to environmental factors, advises state agencies on potential health implications of their actions, and provides the public with information as to preventative and corrective actions in the area of environmental health.
