UK: Amgen- European Director of Epidemiology

Amgen
European Director - Epidemiology

Based Uxbridge or Cambridge, UK

Amgen, a biotechnology pioneer, discovers, develops and delivers innovative human therapeutics. Our medicines have helped millions of patients in the fight against cancer, chronic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis and other serious illnesses. With a deep and broad pipeline of potential new medicines, we continue to advance science to serve patients.

The mission of our Global Epidemiology function is to provide epidemiologic expertise and advance the design, conduct, analysis, and publication of scientific investigations that support Amgen's research, development and commercial strategy worldwide.

Epidemiologists within the group support all stages of product development across various therapeutic areas. We make extensive use of a number of large epidemiologic and medical care databases and also work collaboratively with external academic researchers and commercial research organisations. In addition to our activities related to specific disease areas and products, we work more generally to promote the understanding and effective use of observational research to inform and complement our drug development programs and clinical trials.

Reporting to the Head of Global Epidemiology, you will formulate and execute a strategy to develop the epidemiology function in Europe and provide expertise regarding the design, conduct, execution, and interpretation of epidemiological studies across therapeutic areas. You will also develop a vision for the European epidemiology function that is co-ordinated with the vision for the Global Epidemiology function.

You should have a PhD in Epidemiology or a MD and Master's or higher degree in Epidemiology as well as substantial relevant practical experience. Expertise and/or interest in osteoporosis, chronic kidney disease, haematological disorders and/or cancer are particularly relevant. Experience in program development and a substantial track record of conducting epidemiologic research that provides evidence of strong logical and analytic skills are essential.

You will need to be able to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams and will be self motivated and independent, with excellent oral and written communication skills. You will also have the ambition and personal qualities to thrive in a work environment that provides every opportunity for you to reach your full potential.
