Position Description: There are two vacant Surveillance Coordinator positions within the Pinellas County Health Department, Disease Control Division Surveillance Unit. These positions will provide opportunities for motivated and innovative epidemiologists to assist in the collection and verification of data for follow-up and special studies conducted within the Unit.
The HIV/AIDS Surveillance Coordinator and the STD/TB Surveillance Coordinator will provide surveillance services, applying the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics in assessment, epidemiological determination, planning interventions to control the spread of disease, data collection, analysis, and communication of findings.
The positions will perform routine data checks, analyses, and queries using disease reporting databases. The incumbents will provide information on the prevention, transmission, surveillance and control of HIV/AIDS, STD and TB to the community, client, or health care professional groups and will prepare data for surveillance newsletters for dissemination to providers and the official Pinellas CHD website. The Surveillance Coordinators will occasionally attend meetings with community partners to share and yield vital information.
Other responsibilities include regular database back-ups and maintaining highly confidential patient case reports and conducting daily security reviews in morning and evening to ensure all files and doors are locked and database is secure.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Completion of a graduate degree at an accredited college or university in Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field and work experience within the field of Epidemiology performing public health surveillance related to HIV/AIDS, STD and/or Tuberculosis. Experience at a state or local county health department is preferable. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of the mechanisms of HIV, STD, and TB infection including knowledge of HIV, STD and TB testing algorithms and diagnosis. Ability to analyze data, write reports, and establish and maintain effective relationships with persons contacted in the course of work. Experience conducting chart reviews. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work as a part of a team, to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and to work in a high pressure environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good judgement and problem solving skills.
