Program Manager

Research!America is seeking a Program Manager to manage an innovative public health/global health research advocacy outreach effort that is engaging the nation's leading global health research experts in targeted public outreach. The goal of this effort, supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is to raise awareness among policy makers and the media of the value and importance of global health research. Furthermore, this effort is integral to Research!America's overall goal of changing the culture of science to embrace public outreach.

Required qualifications and experience:
Understanding of and commitment to advocacy; passion for public health/global health;
Five to seven years experience in an advocacy organization, voluntary health, or as a Health LA or Deputy Communications
Director or Press Secretary;
Degree in science, public health, public or international affairs, public administration or communications in combination with strong experience in one or more of the following:
communications, public relations, media relations; Ability to successfully engage and enable high level researchers to succeed in their outreach goals and furthering the organization's leadership in advocacy and adding to the program manager's professional development.

Selected job specifics:

Day-to-day project management, seek and build new relationships with the global health community; engage key federal committees, work with internal and external communications and PR consultants, message development and writing to support communications outreach (e.g., letters to the editor, op-eds and "pitch" letters for media interviews and speaking engagements); with enthusiasm and new ideas, engage the science community in increased
advocacy and public outreach and, multiple opportunities to learn how to utilize public opinion polling in support of research.

Reporting to Research!America's Executive Director, Paul G. Rogers Society for Global Health Research/Director, Public Health Advocacy, this is a full-time, grant-funded, exempt position.

The Research!America alliance is comprised of 500+ member organizations representing more than 125 million Americans. These member organizations represent basic, behavioral, biotech,
clinical, health services, prevention and public health, global health and therapeutic research from the public and private sectors. Our public opinion polls, advocacy programs and publications reach the public and decision makers to help advance medical and health research.
