WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY
Faculty Position in Genetic Epidemiology
The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention in the Division of Public Health Sciences of Wake Forest University School of Medicine seeks a genetic epidemiologist with research interest in the genetics of complex human disease such as cancer, metabolic disorders, obesity, cardiovascular, renal and neurodegenerative diseases. Academic rank of appointment for the tenure-track faculty position can be at the assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending upon prior experience and research accomplishments. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct independent and collaborative research in a multidisciplinary setting and across multiple academic institutions.
Wake Forest University is located in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and has an excellent quality of life, moderate four season climate, nearby mountains/ocean with affordable housing in a metropolitan area of approximatley 1.3 million people. The Institution includes centers in a variety of disciplines including the Human Genomics Center, the Diabetes Center, the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center, the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center, and the Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Division of Public Health Sciences has over 50 faculty and 250 staff in three departments: Epidemiology and Prevention, Social Sciences and Health Policy, and Biostatistical Sciences (including a Section on Statistical genetics and Bioinformatics), and is ranked second nationally in NIH research funding among similar medical school departments. Faculty in the Department of Epidemiology and prevention participate in a broad range of cohort studies, clinical trials, and community-based research.
Applicants should have a Doctoral degree (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., or Dr.P.H.) with training in genetic epidemiology. The successful applicant should have excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to secure extramural funding in genetic epidemiological research. Strong quantitative skills are essential.
