Boston, MA: Project Manager, Institute on Urban Health Research, Northeastern University

The Institute on Urban Health Research (IUHR) at Northeastern University is seeking to fill a position for a research Project Manager. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of 2-3 funded research projects, ensuring that the project achieves all goals in a timely manner, assisting in data analyses, manuscript preparation, report preparation and grant writing, supervising project research staff and graduate students and liaison with community partners.

Minimum requirements include: Master’s in Public Health or in another Social Science discipline plus two years of research experience (or Bachelor’s with four years of experience) in managing research tasks, conducting data analyses including experience and skills in SPSS and/or SAS, previous management/supervisory experience desirable, bilingual/bicultural skills desirable, instrument programming (QDS) highly desirable, ability to work independently and as a part of a team and excellent oral and written communication. Must be a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational/multi-tasking skills, able to work with diverse populations, and be able to perform well in a demanding research environment.

The IUHR was founded by Professor Hortensia Amaro in response to serious and largely unmitigated disparities in the level of overall health and health care found in urban populations, particularly those of the urban poor, African-American and Latino communities. It is devoted to knowledge discovery and its practical application to improve personal and public health within urban communities. The IUHR is particularly focused on understanding the social and environmental conditions of urban living in order to inform public health intervention strategies, policies and professional training. The IUHR is staffed by a team of researchers, graduate students and faculty from diverse disciplines. Research areas include HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment adherence, substance abuse prevention and treatment, mental health, interpersonal violence and trauma, obesity, discrimination in health care, and race/ethnic health disparities.
