SUPERVISING EPIDEMIOLOGIST
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO
$5,730 - $7,164 /Month
The Disease Control and Prevention Unit in the Public Health Services Division seeks a Supervising Epidemiologist who will plan, assign, review and supervise the work of assigned staff; train staff in work procedures; develop individual and team performance objectives; provide input into selection decisions, evaluate employee performance, counsel employees and recommend initial corrective action; assist in the formulation or revision of the Disease Control Program and policies and implement strategies to control diseases; investigate epidemics or outbreaks of diseases through fieldwork or by analysis of collected data; review the results of the departmental surveillance of communicable and other diseases and epidemiological case history records to determine prevalence, attack rates, and trends; design, conduct and analyze epidemiological surveys and prepare reports; assess risk and hazardous conditions within the community; make recommendations for prevention and control procedures based on risk assessments; consult with persons working on special projects, advise staff and work with community health professionals regarding disease prevention and control; assist with epidemiological aspects of study, planning, design, methodology and data collection; compile and evaluate records of the incidence and distribution of all reportable diseases and other conditions; prepare and maintain records and reports; develop procedures for accurate and prompt reporting of communicable and other conditions; and make technical and informational presentations to varied groups in the community.
The Ideal Candidate will possess a Master's degree or higher with an emphasis in Epidemiology and four or more years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of lead or supervisorial duties in a large, complex public health agency or similar environment.
Requires any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is three years of experience in public health epidemiology.
