Position Overview:
Chevron Energy Technology Company (ETC) is accepting online applications for the position of Epidemiologist (0707-50043381) located in Richmond, CA or Houston, TX.
The Epidemiologist is part of a team of health, environment, and safety professionals serving Chevron operating companies world-wide. Work duties include managing an occupational mortality database, analyzing cohort mortality studies, providing technical support for regulatory advocacy, and serving as an internal subject matter expert to Chevron operating companies on key occupational and community health issues. To effectively meet customers’ needs in these areas, the Epidemiologist works in close partnership with the operating company and corporate staff.
Position Details: Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:
- Recommends, designs, executes, and interprets epidemiological studies related to the workforce; prepares technical reports and scientific manuscripts; presents findings to management and employees.
- Manages and participates in the maintenance of the company mortality database including database operation and upgrades, vital status updates, and cause of death coding.
- Provides expert epidemiological support company-wide on occupational and community health issues related to Chevron operations, including health risk assessments, and health impact assessments.
- Participates on industry-wide trade associations, technical workgroups, and supports regulatory advocacy committees to address epidemiology, risk assessment, and/or exposure assessment issues of interest to Chevron.
- Provides litigation support for personal injury or wrongful death.
- Occasional to moderate level of travel may be required both in U.S. and International
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required in Public Health, Epidemiology, health sciences or closely allied science
- PhD or equivalent and 5 years experience preferred
- Relocation benefits will be considered.
- This is a safety sensitive Position.

- Exceptional writing and editing skills across multiple channels and vehicles.
- Ability to produce clear, concise, compelling stories especially for an online audience.
- Juggles multiple deadlines.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills. Must feel comfortable interviewing senior executives, and be able to establish a rapport with employees across the business.
Collaboration:
- Works in collaborative manner with Editorial Team Leads, communications advisors, and colleagues. - is comfortable receiving feedback from sources and members of Internal Communications team.
- Promotes a team environment; interest in the overall success of the team.
- Can act as back up to editorial team leads.
Initiative and Creativity:
- Has a strong sense of curiosity about Chevron's businesses and the energy industry; able to develop creative story ideas that highlight successes and challenges that are of interest to corporate-wide audience.
- Ability to develop the "whole package" includes the content and collateral visuals.
Communication Skills:
- Has strong business communications and consulting skills, and can work with internal client groups to meet their communications needs.
