Position Description: Job Summary The Office of Community Assessment within the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department is recruiting for a Regular, Full-time, Epidemiologist I to work with a small group of colleagues to assist in providing epidemiological support, assessment, evaluation and analysis. This position will primarily involve development and coordination of evaluation activities for public health prevention programs such as tobacco control, physical activity and nutrition promotion, and worksite wellness. This is a professional classification located in the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department and is under the direction of a supervisor.

Essential functions of the job include: · Assisting with the collection of epidemiologically important data. · Analysis of the data using appropriate statistical methods. · Performing library research and data searches. · Designing data collection and management tools such as surveys and databases. · Assisting with the presentation of the results of epidemiologic investigations and program evaluation results to community and professional forums. · Preparing draft reports based on the analysis of collected data.

This classification involves interaction with a culturally diverse population of clients, educational institutions, governmental agencies, community-based coalitions, and departmental staff to collect epidemiologic data and to communicate findings. An employee assigned to this classification will work semi-independently under general supervision. Work assignments are both general and specific in nature, and are received in both verbal and written form. Instructions received define overall objectives, with some specificity regarding how to proceed with assignments. Work results are usually examined by the supervisor for soundness of technical judgment, the attainment of program standards, and the quality and quantity of work products. Unusual problems or situations are mutually discussed with the supervisor.

Qualifications: Education and Experience A Bachelor’s Degree in a health-care related field with coursework in statistics; and 2 years of experience performing statistical work in a Public Health and/or community-based health environment or the equivalent education, training and experience.
