Description
The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. The School, like the University at large, is in a period of dynamic growth and change and is poised to reach new levels of excellence. The Dean reports directly to the Provost and is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for the School by working with faculty, staff, and students. Through fundraising and other activities, the Dean is responsible for securing the resources necessary for realizing the School’s vision; fostering diversity and social justice among faculty, staff and students; and encouraging and supporting basic and applied research as well as excellence in academic programs at all levels.
The School, which has 50 tenure system faculty, is comprised of four departments: Communication Disorders, Kinesiology, Nutrition, and Public Health, which houses the Divisions of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Community Health Studies, and Environmental Health Sciences. The school has 633 undergraduate and 417 graduate students enrolled both on campus and through its fully online MPH degree. The School enjoys many collaborations across the state such as those with the Baystate Medical Center, the UMASS Medical School, and the Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute.
