POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

CUNY is committed to making ten tenure-track appointments in demography through 2010 and has created the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research (www.cuny.edu/cidr), located at Baruch College. The appointment at Hunter, in public health, will be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. CUNY has recently announced that by 2010, it will open the CUNY School of Public Health at Hunter College, a collaborative effort of CUNY's several public health programs. The faculty member is expected to:

• Teach courses in demography and public health;

• Participate in or lead interdisciplinary research teams that will develop and obtain funding for investigations on topics at the intersection of demography and public health and;

• Assist in the development and implementation of doctoral training in demography and public health.

Topics of interest include but are not limited to: life course influences on fertility, morbidity, mortality and health disparities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A Ph.D. is required by the time of appointment. Preference will be given to candidates with a doctorate in demography, public health or a related discipline. At the Associate Professor level preference will given to those with a demonstrated record of explicitly demographically-oriented publication and grantsmanship, and an ability to teach core demography and public health courses. For the Assistant Professor level, preference will be given to those who have one or more papers with direct demographic relevance. Some training in epidemiology is also a plus.

Hunter College seeks candidates with expertise in population-based quantitative analyses of fertility, health, morbidity or mortality.
