Primary Functions/Responsibilities:
To develop a program of research through designing specific projects for submission to funding agencies, implementing research and demonstration projects in the investigator's area of specialization, preparing papers reporting research results for presentation to scientific/professional organizations, translating research into practice and for publication in the scientific/professional literature, and participating in the overall development of the CHR's research agenda.

Required Competencies and Skills:
- Written communication with scientific/technical/clinical audiences.
- Research design expertise.
- Project management.
- Computer Programming Language(s) e.g. SAS
- Partnership skills, including communications and negotiations.

Required Education, Experience and Training:
- Doctoral degree Ph.D., M.D., or Dr. P.H. in one of the social sciences, medicine, or health care disciplines.
- Thorough knowledge of quantitative methods (from mathematics and statistics) for dealing with methodological and analytic problems in the investigator?s substantive area of expertise (e.g., epidemiology, sociology, economics).
- Working knowledge of health care organization, policy, practice, and management (to facilitate application of research to medical and health care phenomena).
- Working knowledge of a standard statistical software library (e.g., SAS or SPSS) and design of relational database.
- Research methods and theory in health-research related discipline.
- Substantive knowledge in health-related discipline.
- Ability to write and communicate effectively to scientific/technical/lay/clinical audiences.
- Ability to work in a computerized work environment, including word processing and data processing.
- Data analysis and interpretation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership ability as evidenced by key leadership role on complex research projects including supervision of research staff.
- Two (2) to three (3) years as co-investigator or principal investigator of research projects.
- Demonstrated ability to author and co-author publications in national, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
- Experience in organizing and transmitting the knowledge of their disciplines, such as through teaching at the college or university level as an assistant or associate professor.
- Experience presenting research findings at national meetings.

Preferred Education, Experience and Training:
- Comprehensive knowledge of quantitative methods (from mathematics and statistics) for dealing with methodological and analytical problems in the investigator?s substantive area of expertise (e.g., epidemiology, sociology, economics).
- Thorough knowledge of health care organization, policy, practice, and management (to facilitate application of research to medical and health care phenomena)
- Thorough knowledge of a standard statistical software library (e.g., SAS, SPSS) and design of relational databases.
- Outstanding ability to write and communicate effectively to scientific/technical audiences, as well as clinical and lay audiences.
- Specialized skills in the area of a theoretical discipline.
- Computer programming languages.
- Partnership skill, including communications and negotiations.
- Three (3) to five (5) years pertaining to health-related research, theory, and policy.
- Experience working in or with a health maintenance organization.
- Experience with diverse populations.
