Epidemiologist/Data Analyst

Contra Costa Health Services’ (CCHS) Community Health Assessment, Planning and Evaluation (CHAPE) group seeks an epidemiologist/data analyst to provide support to a variety of CCHS public health projects and programs. This position offers the unique opportunity to work with a diverse team of health professionals and community members on a range of projects that address community health issues such as family, maternal and child health, chronic disease and injury prevention, homelessness and health disparities in the county.
Job Responsibilities
• Identify, obtain, organize and analyze demographic and non-infectious disease data
• Manage, organize and update large data sets, including birth, death, hospitalization and injury data
• Respond to data requests from Health Services staff and community partners
• Use analytic and presentation software to collect, analyze and present epidemiologic and other data to community residents, program managers, policy makers and others (e.g., SAS, EpiInfo, SPSS, Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word).
• Assist program staff in various elements of program evaluation including study design and implementation, data analysis, and summary and presentation of evaluation results
• Design and implement community needs assessments utilizing epidemiologic, demographic and health-related data
• Serve as CHAPE’s liaison for data-related matters and activities with other departments, counties, and governmental and health agencies
Job Skills
Knowledge of:
• Statistical methods for analyzing and presenting data
• Accepted methods of epidemiological and social science research design and study techniques
• Computer applications related to the work, including database development and report generation
Demonstrated ability to:
• Plan and conduct varied epidemiological analyses
• Assist with planning and evaluating health programs
• Think logically to define problems, collect data and draw conclusions
• Communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
• Present epidemiological and other data findings to a variety of audiences
• Multi-task, prioritize and manage time on multiple projects
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team with diverse staff and community partners
Training
Equivalent to a Master’s degree in Epidemiology or Public Health with major course work in Epidemiology from an accredited college or university.
Job Specifics
Salary will depend upon experience. A generous benefits package is included. The individual filling this position will work in the Public Health Division office in Martinez and report to Dr. Chuck McKetney, Director of CHAPE. This position is temporary with the opportunity to apply for a permanent civil service position. This is a full-time position, although part time work may be negotiated.
