Position Description: The University of Texas at El Paso, College of Health Sciences invites nominations and applications for the position of the Chair of the Department of Health Promotion (Associate/Professor level) from talented and experienced national leaders who will cultivate excellence in research, teaching, and service. This position represents an excellent opportunity for an outstanding individual to build on established programs and shape the direction of the new MPH program and other future initiatives. Qualifications: (1) Earned doctoral degree in public health or a closely related field; (2) strong record of academic scholarship as demonstrated by research publications and ability to secure extramural research funding, and (3) evidence of successful leadership and resource management experience in an academic setting. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in epidemiology, biostatistics, or environmental health, a strong collaborative research record, prior experience working in a multi-cultural setting, and interest in Hispanic/border health issues.
Organization Description: "Changing the Face of Higher Education" The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a Doctoral/Research-Intensive urban university offering bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programs to approximately 20,000 students. The City of El Paso, home to UTEP, is part of the world’s largest bi- national metropolitan area located less than one mile from downtown El Paso and just across the Rio Grande from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. It has five departments (Health Promotion, Clinical and Laboratory Sciences, Kinesiology, Social Work, Rehabilitative Sciences) and two cooperative programs (Pharmacy, Public Health). Strong collaborative ties also exist with the School of Nursing which is housed within the same building. The College is staffed by over 44 full-time faculty members and serves more than 1,300 students. It is nationally recognized for its innovative research in Hispanic health and health disparities. Its strong research program has generated more than $26 million in funding in the past three years. The Department of Health Promotion (DHP) has a history of excellence in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community service. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and a Master of Public Health. Departmental faculty also participate in the PhD Program in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences administered by the College of Health Sciences. The DHP currently has approximately 175 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students. Its nine full-time faculty are nationally recognized for their research on Hispanic/border and international populations.
