The candidate for this position will assist the Center for Disaster & Extreme Event Preparedness (DEEP Center) program in the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Miami. DEEP Center conducts training, research and community service in the areas of disaster behavioral health, special populations and general public preparedness for disasters, disaster epidemiology, and international applications of disaster and extreme event preparedness and response.
The individual will assist with training curriculum development inclusive of background research, writing and editing chapters and manuscripts, collation and management of references, development of graphics, development and refinement of PowerPoint presentations, and conversion of materials into print-ready copy. Creation of exercise workbooks for interactive training. Represent DEEP Center in community meetings such as including regular attendance at meetings at the Offices of Emergency Management and public health departments in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Meetings at Jackson Memorial Medical Center and University of Miami and meetings of community-based organizations active in disasters. Develop course materials into printer-ready format.
Support for the activities of the Disaster Interest Group at University of Miami including staff support, survey collection and analysis, maintenance of website and/or blog. which includes updating the online training schedule, uploading and organizing course materials, maintaining Web support for the Disaster Interest Group. Other functions as assigned by DEEP Center Director
Minimum qualifications include a Masters Degree in Public Health, Disaster Management, Pyschology or related field plus at one year of research experience. Prior experience in preparing manuscripts a plus. Strong organizational and communication skills. Availability for overnight travel. Experience with Web design and maintenance a plus. Skillset in evaluation and data analysis is beneficial. Must have the ability to work independently. Proficient in MS Office, Adobe InDesign and Internet search skills. An appropriate combination of education, certifications, and/or relevant work experience will be considered.
