POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Hunter College of the City University of New York (CUNY) seeks Assistant, Associate or Full Professor (tenure-track) to serve as an epidemiologist in the Urban Public Health Program. CUNY intends to establish a School of Public Health at Hunter College within three years. This position will contribute to the development of the epidemiology programs in the School. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor and will be made at Hunter College for the academic year commencing September 2008.
Hunter College seeks candidates with experience and qualifications teaching graduate courses in epidemiology, supervising graduate students and conducting epidemiological research in urban settings.
Responsibilities include:
• Help to develop a new master of public health (MPH) degree program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and a new doctor of public health (DPH) degree program in epidemiology with a focus on urban populations.
• Teach graduate courses in epidemiology, and help to develop new courses as needed.
• Lead, participate in and seek funding for interdisciplinary research teams that will conduct epidemiological studies of urban health.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A Doctorate in epidemiology or a closely related field; graduate teaching experience in epidemiology or a closely related field; experience supervising graduate students; and a record of grantsmanship and publications (commensurate with experience) on such issues as: chronic or infectious diseases, violence, substance use, reproductive health, mental health, physical environment or other urban health issues. Research experience in community, public health or other non-academic settings is also desirable.
