The Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research Hawaii (KPCHRH) is a non-profit organization that is strategically focused on advancing knowledge to improve the health of diverse populations through world-leading, innovative, interdisciplinary and translational research. A primary research laboratory is the population of Kaiser Permanente members, nearly a fifth of the states multi-ethnic population, and its electronic medical database and research clinic. Through linkages with Kaiser Permanente Research Centers nationwide, other Health Maintenance Organizations and health care systems, Research Institutes and University collaborations, the KPCHRH conducts professionally autonomous research in areas uniquely suited to our setting.

Current areas of research include epidemiology, health services, psychology, informatics, behavior change, nutrition, translational research, medical outcomes and community based participatory research. We seek a Researcher to complement our group. The successful candidate will develop a competitively funded research program, publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and participate in related professional activities.

Exempt/Gr. 28 - Salary is commensurate with experience, skills, etc.

BASIC JOB PURPOSE
Under indirect supervision, LEADS program of research in defined area of expertise by designing and implementing major health-related research projects; DEVELOPS and TESTS significant innovations in organization, delivery, and financing of healthcare; PUBLISHES research findings in major scientific and professional journals and books; STIMULATES and GUIDES overall development of Center of Health Research (CHR)/Center of Health Research Hawaii (CHRH) as pre-eminent research institution. SUPPORTS compliance and Principles of Responsibility; MAINTAINS confidentiality; PROTECTS organizational assets; EXHIBITS ethics and integrity; ADHERES to applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditation and licensing requirements, policies and procedures; REPORTS and/or RESOLVES issues of non-compliance. DESIGNS, DEVELOPS, OBTAINS funding for, and DIRECTS large ongoing research program comprising multiple, coordinated research, demonstration, and/or evaluation projects in defined area of expertise and interest in order to contribute to knowledge about health and healthcare delivery. DISSEMINATES research results through presentations to scientific and professional groups and through publications in scientific and professional journals and books.

On a regular, sustained basis, COOPERATES with other staff members both within and outside the department in accomplishment of own job duties as well as assisting others in accomplishing theirs. SERVES as team player and role model for other employees in the organization; always exhibiting traits of courtesy, caring, helpfulness and respect. CONDUCTS self in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, cooperative, sensitive, respectful and kind when dealing with members, visitors, the public and all employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/TRAINING
Doctoral degree in social sciences, medicine, healthcare, or related field.

Equivalent combination of education (lesser) & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.

EXPERIENCE/OTHER
Three years experience as Principal Investigator of major research projects and maintenance of an organized research program; Established program or area of research; Substantial record of publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals; Experience in organizing and transmitting the knowledge of their disciplines such as through teaching at the college or university level as a senior associate or full professor; Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods (from mathematics and statistics) for dealing with methodological and analytic problems in a defined area of expertise (e.g., epidemiology, sociology, economics); Working knowledge of a standard statistical software application (e.g., SAS or SPSS) and relational database design; Knowledge of healthcare organization, policy, practice, and management (to facilitate application of research to medical and healthcare phenomena); Same as Research Investigator including: adaptability, decision making, group presentations, group process facilitation, influence, project management, quality management, results orientation, systems thinking, and team building; Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the following PC application(s): word processing, spreadsheet, database, and multimedia presentations.

COMMUNICATION AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, and on the telephone. Reading, writing, speaking, understanding English. Training/giving and receiving instructions. Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
