ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE/FULL PROFESSOR OF EPIDEMIOLOGY AND BIOSTATISTICS. Position is located at the Veterinary Medical Teaching and Research Center (VMTRC) in Tulare, CA. Salary dependent on qualifications and experience. PhD or equivalent required in Epidemiology/Biostatistics or a closely related field. DVM preferred but not essential. Documented research program or potential to develop an independent research program in epidemiology of food animal health and disease or biostatistical methods appropriate to food animal populations. Demonstrated aptitude/experience in teaching and mentoring graduate students or the potential to do so is required. Demonstrated record or potential in acquisition of extramural funding. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Evidence of, or potential for leadership and initiative is essential and required. Teaching: Responsibilities include: 1) Dairy production medicine residents; 4th year veterinary students with an interest in dairy production medicine. 2) Participation in lectures, laboratories and discussions in the DVM professional curriculum and graduate professional curricula (MPVM), and 3) Participation in the graduate academic programs (MS and PhD) of the campus, particularly the Graduate Group in Epidemiology. Development of new specialty courses based on area of expertise is expected. Research: The development of a creative, independent and productive research program at the VMTRC is a fundamental and indispensable requirement of the position, including publication of results in professional/scientific journals. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an on-going research program and will provide leadership in directing research projects of graduate students and research. Preferred areas of research emphasis are: Benefit-cost analyses, economic evaluation, production monitoring, & risk management strategies for dairy cattle health & production efficiency; Evaluating & improving dairy cattle welfare. All of these research activities are data-driven and require appropriate design, data collections, and analysis to yield scientifically valid and useful results. Service: The candidate is expected to work with state agencies and campus groups in identifying important research needs in animal health, management and well-being, and to be a consultative resource for those agencies. In particular, collaborative involvement with dissemination of new knowledge to stakeholders, including veterinarians and dairy producers. University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate means is also required. Position #07-06
