Description
The DuPont Company seeks a highly motivated Occupational Epidemiologist to join the DuPont Corporate Epidemiology Program. The individual filling this position will be a primary investigator in a well-established industrial epidemiology program in a company that operates worldwide and produces thousands of diverse products. The selected candidate will interact with all levels of manufacturing, business, safety, health, and environmental (SHE), toxicology and human resources staff within DuPont. Additionally s/he will work with Community Advisory Panels, external scientific experts, and governmental health authorities.
Primary responsibilities include:
Designing, conducting and providing scientific oversight for epidemiology studies;
Providing consultation to various DuPont businesses on epidemiologic issues;
Further developing core competencies in epidemiology for the Company;
Identifying areas for improved health of DuPont employees and beneficiaries; and
Representing DuPont at scientific conferences, professional societies, and inter-industry associations.
Though primarily US focused today, this position is part of DuPont’s global medical function with activity throughout the world and may require limited travel. Travel to DuPont locations may include interactions with site SHE staff, acquaintance with Company operations and data sources, and communication of health studies to employees and managers.
The DuPont Epidemiology Program, established in 1956, is one of the oldest corporate epidemiology programs in the U.S. and is recognized as an international leader in occupational epidemiology practice. DuPont epidemiologists have conducted over 100 studies, most of which have been published in the peer-reviewed literature. The Program also maintains registries and surveillance programs, which are currently being extended to international sites.
The Epidemiology Program is a part of the Office of the Global Chief Medical Officer and is located with DuPont Haskell Global Centers for Health and Environmental Sciences in Newark, Delaware. In addition to working closely with DuPont’s extensive toxicology resources, the Epidemiology Program evaluates the health experience of employee groups in close coordination with DuPont’s medical, industrial hygiene, ergonomics and safety departments. In addition, Epidemiology supports population health initiatives to identify health improvement opportunities, target intervention programs, and evaluate their impact on health and business performance.
This position reports to the Principal Research Epidemiologist.
Qualifications
PhD (or equivalent) in Epidemiology or related Human Health Science; alternatively an M.D. with a Master's degree may be considered
3-5 years of occupational epidemiology experience utilizing a variety of methodologic designs (e.g., cohort, case-control, case-cohort or other longitudinal health studies); additional experience in environmental epidemiology will be desirable
Demonstrated experience in exposure assessment and performance of exposure-health effect analyses utilizing appropriate statistical techniques including multivariate analyses.
Excellent written and oral presentation skills for diverse audiences
Strong interpersonal and networking influence and negotiating skills supporting a team approach
Time management skills and demonstrated ability to complete projects
The following work experiences are desirable:
Facility with large, complex data systems and statistical software packages (e.g. SAS)
Multidisciplinary application of epidemiology such as quantitative risk assessment practice
Familiarity with health services research and analysis of health insurance data
Epidemiology experience beyond North America.
