JOB DESCRIPTION :
The Lead Poisoning Prevention Program¡¦s (LPPP) mission is to prevent and control childhood lead poisoning in New York City. This is an exciting job opportunity for a highly motivated individual to contribute to childhood lead poisoning prevention, influence public policy, and ultimately improve the health of children, particularly in low-income communities, with the goal of eliminating childhood poisoning by 2010.

Under the direction of the Policy and Planning coordinator the Public Health Epidemiologist II will:
„X Evaluate environmental sampling data related to lead poisoning cases.
„X Review case investigation reports and summarize environmental and medical data for cases of lead poisoned children.
„X Develop program protocols and staff training in support of LPPP¡¦s environmental intervention activities.
„X Assist with the expansion of the primary prevention project (a NYS-grant project).
„X Provide time-sensitive responses to contestations of Commissioner¡¦s Orders and requests for modified Orders.
„X Assist on grant applications and special reports, including NYC¡¦s progress in meeting the goals and objectives of the NYC¡¦s Comprehensive Lead Poisoning Prevention Plan ("The Lead Elimination Plan").
This position may require occasional city-wide travel.
PREFFERED SKILLS:
Excellent presentation and writing skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong analytical and statistical skills. Background in environmental health.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
1. A Master's degree in public health or epidemiology from an accredited college or
university; or

2. A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by eight credits in the physical or biological sciences; or a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, and successful completion of PRINCIPLES OF EPIDEMIOLOGY (#3030-G), a course for health professionals, given by the Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Public Health Service; plus one year of full-time paid experience as a health professional in a position which requires the reading and interpretation of hospital medical charts and complex medical information, in order to ascertain the medical condition of patients.

NOTE: NEW YORK CITY RESIDENCY IS REQUIRED WITHIN 90 DAYS OF APPOINTMENT.
