The College of Health Sciences is home to a wide range of disciplines that support world-class accredited programs. Several of its programs are nationally ranked and two (Physical Therapy, and Biomechanics and Movement Science) are among the top ten programs in the country. The University of Delaware invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Health Sciences. The Dean provides academic leadership for over 100 faculty in five departments/school (Health, Nutrition and Sports Studies, Kinesiology and Applied Physiology, Medical Technology, Nursing, and Physical Therapy) that enroll approximately 1700 undergraduate and 250 graduate students. Reporting directly to the Provost, the Dean occupies a key role in the life of the University and must function effectively as part of the central administrative team, including active participation in University development activities.
The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with an outstanding academic record consistent with a senior faculty appointment. The Dean should have experience in recruiting and retaining faculty of excellence and be able to manage a complex academic enterprise in a collaborative manner. The Dean must provide vision for the college and foster both vigorous research programs and excellent undergraduate and graduate education across the breadth of disciplines within the college. An ability to develop innovative academic programs and to promote the college's interests with internal and external constituencies within the state and at the national/international level is important for the position. The Dean must be committed to interdisciplinary and multicultural education and have a record of promoting diversity. The successful candidate must possess an earned doctorate or equivalent degree in one of the disciplines or related fields in the College of Health Sciences.
