The Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health (MEZCOPH) at the University of Arizona (UA) invites applications for the Director of its Division for Health Promotion Sciences. Located in Tucson, Arizona, MEZCOPH is one of seventeen colleges of the University of Arizona, one of the nation's leading public universities. With 1,000,000 multicultural citizens, Tucson is a growing economic and recreational center that reflects the richness and diversity of the Southwest and U.S.-Mexico border regions.
The College offers tremendous opportunities with regards to educating future public health leaders with state of the art classrooms, research and community involvement thanks to a locale rich in history, research opportunities, and university academic resources. The College ranks among the top five in American Indian and Hispanic graduates and students enrolled among the accredited schools of public health, according to recent data from the Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH). In addition, the University of Arizona is one of only 62 members in the Association of American Universities, a prestigious organization that recognizes universities who have developed exceptionally strong overall research and academic programs.
The Division of Health Promotion Sciences includes two divisions: (1) Family and Child Health and (2) Health Behavior and Health Promotion. The Division houses two maternal and child health training grants and has a major role in the College’s CDC supported Prevention Research Center. It offers an MPH degree in Family and Child Health with tracks in maternal and child health and one in international health. The Division also provides an MPH in Health Behavior and Health Promotion. It has a DrPH program in Maternal and Child Health and has plans to develop a doctoral program in the area of Health Behavior and Health Promotion. Academic leadership for the undergraduate program is lead by faculty in the Division. The research by the multidisciplinary faculty in the Division supports the College’s mission to promoting the health of individuals and communities with a special emphasis on diverse populations and the Southwest. Research programs range from bench science to translational research in health promotion and include: nutrition, physical activity, tobacco, alcohol, and substance abuse, women's health, child health, minority health, international health, eating disorders, gender based violence, cancer prevention, AIDS, health education, prevention science, program evaluation, quality of care improvement, patient empowerment, chronic disease self-management, and quality of life assessment.
The Division Director will provide oversight to the breadth of academic activities conducted in the Division. The Director will lead and manage the academic unit with regards to faculty development and resource allocation. This position will provide leadership to the College and University through participation on the Dean’s Council and other academic committees.
As a senior member of the faculty, the Division Director will also mentor and support faculty members, maintain a well-established research program funded by federal and private funding sources, work with communities to develop and conduct research, participate in curricular development for master’s and doctoral degree programs, and participate in the instructional programs in the division.
