SENIOR RESEARCH SCIENTIST
Salary range: £39,243 - £60,628 p.a. inclusive of allowances
An additional clinical retention allowance may apply
We have an exciting new position for a Senior Research Scientist in the HIV and Infections Group at the Medical Research Council Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) coordinating UK-based studies within the HIV adult therapeutic programme. The post holder will be based in London at the CTU, as part of a multidisciplinary team of statisticians, trial managers and clinicians and would work closely with the major international HIV treatment clinical trials networks. The post holder will act as the project leader for a number of new trials in this programme. These will include the START trial, funded by the NIH and conducted under the INSIGHT network. This is a major international multi-centre trial involving 4000 patients to examine whether early HIV treatment is of benefit. The post holder will also play a major role in two new trials conducted under the European HIV trials network, NEAT. These comprise a trial of treatment options for initiating HIV therapy, and a trial of treatment of acute Hepatitis C in HIV co-infected patients.
We are looking for highly self-motivated applicants, preferably with a higher degree (in statistics, epidemiology or other relevant medical / scientific discipline) and some knowledge of HIV medicine. A clinical background and prior experience of clinical trials are desirable, but not essential. The candidate should have a publication record in a relevant area and experience of initiating and managing complex projects and leading teams.
The candidate would have an honorary academic position and if clinically qualified an honorary clinical attachment to a London clinical HIV/Infectious Diseases department could be arranged.
The post will be for 3 years in the first instance and may be full or part time (>60% or more). Benefits include 30 days annual leave per year, flexi-time scheme, and a contributory pension scheme.
