GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Biostatistician III is responsible for the planning, design, review, programming and implementation of special information systems activities. This includes a variety of projects that require the statistical analysis of data, the creation of project statements and the evaluation and implementation of research designs including but not limited to quantitative and qualitative (experimental and non-experimental) in standard APA format.

*MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Masters Degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or another discipline of public health or a social science.
2.Three years health-related research experience participating in project management and/or relevant experience in research and evaluation projects including at least 3 years experience in biostatistics or epidemiology. This experience may be concurrent with satisfying degree requirements, but must include scientific research data analysis and database management.
3.Knowledge of PC database construction, especially MS Access Database Programming.
4.Working knowledge of SAS, SPSS statistical packages.
5.Strong communication skills, both oral and written necessary to interact with state and national counterparts, internal and external senior management, project team members and study participants.




Position Description MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Design and maintain databases for storage and retrieval of research data. Write computer programs to combine
data from separate computer files to allow comparison of data from different sources.
•Instruct and supervise other personnel (data entry clerks, research assistants) in data management including merging
and updating existing databases.
•Collaborate with program staff on the design and analysis of biostatistics aspects of research protocols.
•Create SAS/SPSS applications in support of research projects.
•Participate in the design of questionnaires and interview forms.
•Analyze data in collaboration with senior statisticians beginning with univariate and multivariate analyses such as logistic regression and factor analysis for research studies.
•Provide tabular and written summaries of analyses in a form suitable for inclusion in project deliverables as well as media for presentation at project meetings.
•Coordinate and collaborate with other biostatistics and information technology professionals.
• Interpret and present study results in collaboration with faculty members, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and project team members.
•Collect background data for studies from various database sources: summarize findings for presentation at project-related meetings.
•Prepares non-standard correspondence and minutes that require public scrutiny.
•Responsible for content expertise and writing selected sections of project final reports; participates in the editing of reports; responsible for the execution and production of presentation-ready final project deliverables.
•Participates in the oral presentation of all project findings and abstracts including participation in periodic project status meetings and presentation of final project deliverables.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the department head as assigned

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Will provide functional supervision of associated data entry and research personnel as assigned.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Base of normal office environment with moderate rate of interruption
Occasional off-regular working hours, weekends and holidays, including on-call
Occasional travel between campus and off-campus department offices.

This position may be benefitted if 20hrs or more per week.

*Department will consider applicants with less qualifications at a lower grade (73); applicants must possess a Bachelors Degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, or another discipline of public health or a social science and one year health-related research experience participating in project management and/or relevant experience in research and evaluation projects including at least 1 year of experience in biostatistics or epidemiology. This experience may be concurrent with satisfying degree requirements, but must include scientific research data analysis and database management.
