The School of Nursing and Health Studies, in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Northern Illinois University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level in its public health and health education programs to begin August 2009.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have a doctorate, preferably a Ph.D., in public health or a closely related area (applicants who are ABD will be considered if their dissertation will be complete by August 2009), and an M.P.H. or related degree. Candidates must demonstrate strong potential for teaching and research in public health. Those candidates with successful university-level teaching experience, proven ability to conduct research, publish results, and secure external funding, and expertise in biostatistics will be given preference. The position will involve graduate and undergraduate teaching, as well as research, university and professional service, student advising, and overseeing student internships. Relevant professional work experience is desirable.

The Program
The public health and health education programs offer a B.S. in public health with emphases in health administration and general community health, a B.S.Ed. in health education, and an M.P.H. degree with specializations in health promotion and health services management. The graduate program is an institutional member of The Association for Prevention Teaching and Research and is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. The school’s regular teaching assignment is two courses per academic semester.

Preference will be given to applications received by January 31, 2009, but applications will be accepted after that date until position is filled.
