Description
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics in the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services (GWU SPHHS) is recruiting for an Assistant Research Professor to serve as the Project Director for the DC site of two NIH-funded HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) studies. The Department is conducting two longitudinal studies on HIV prevention in Washington, DC as part of the HPTN. One study focuses on HIV infection and risk among heterosexual women (HPTN 064) while the other focuses on the use of peer health navigation to increase uptake of HIV prevention activities among black men who have sex with men (HPTN 061).
Responsibilities: The Project Director will work with the Principal Investigators of both studies to initiate and manage all aspects of these multi-site HIV prevention studies. Primary responsibilities include management of the two studies including preparation of research protocols and data collection tools, IRB submissions, and participant recruitment and retention; hiring and supervision of research and clinical staff; oversight and conduct of regulatory submissions and activities; and collaboration with community and NIH/HPTN liaisons. Travel and minimal teaching of masters and doctoral students may be required. Opportunities for future independent research may also be available.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications: Qualified applicants must have either a doctoral degree in epidemiology or a related field (e.g. public health, health services, behavioral science), or a doctoral degree in medicine with advanced training in epidemiology or public health. Strong verbal and written communication skills, a track record of peer-reviewed publications, and experience in field research, project coordination and staff supervision are essential.
Preferred Qualifications: Successful independent receipt of grant or contract funding, previous participation in NIH studies, experience working with community organizations and community advisory boards, and graduate level teaching and/or mentoring experience are preferred.
