Position Description: We seek an energetic individual to fill a bioinformatics/statistician position in the Department of Preventive Medicine. This position involves management of genetic data, statistical genetics analysis, and use of web-based “omics” resources. This is an opportunity to work with world-class investigators from the Southern California Environmental Health Sciences Center, a research center funded by the NIEHS, at USC. The Center houses one of the leading research groups in environmental epidemiology and biostatistics, with a particularly strong reputation in respiratory diseases as well as methodological research in environmental and genetic epidemiology. Specifically, the position will involve:
• Integration of data from multiple sources and databases such as genetics, molecular biology, computational biology, and bioinformatics; • Conducting data analysis on longitudinal and cross-sectional data sets using SAS, including univariate and multivariate statistical techniques such as logistic regression, Cox regression and other statistical methods; • Conducting investigations and generating reports and/or datasets for genomic and epigenomic studies • Interfacing with bioinformatics databases • Assisting in interpretation of large epidemiologic data sets; • Contributing to the writing and preparation of reports, journal articles and conference presentations; and • Assisting in the development of research proposals.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate must have solid proficiency in SAS programming, including data manipulation and documentation, as well as analysis procedures. Master’s degree or equivalent experience in bioinformatics, biostatistics, genetic or molecular epidemiology, or a related field is required. In addition, the successful applicant will have at least 3-5 years of experience in designing and managing health- related databases and performing statistical analysis. Candidates must be detail- oriented, fluent in English, and possess excellent organizational, communication, and written skills.
