POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
Hunter College, City University of New York (CUNY), seeks an Assistant or Associate Professor (tenure-track) to serve as a biostatistician in the Urban Public Health Program. CUNY is in the process of establishing a School of Public Health at Hunter College within three years; this position will contribute to the development of the biostatistics programs, courses and research in the School. The appointment is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor and will be made at Hunter College for the academic year commencing September 2009. Hunter College seeks candidates with experience and qualifications teaching graduate courses, supervising graduate students and conducting quantitative research in public health.
Responsibilities include:
* Teach graduate courses in biostatistics and help to develop new courses, as needed.
* Participate in and seek funding for interdisciplinary research teams that will conduct epidemiological and other studies of urban health and related health issues.
* Help to develop a new master of public health (MPH) degree program in Epidemiology and Biostatistics, with a focus on urban populations.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Doctorate in biostatistics, statistics or a closely related field, such as epidemiology with post-graduate training in biostatistics required; graduate teaching experience in biostatistics, statistics or a closely related field; experience supervising graduate students; and a record of grant writing and publications (commensurate with experience) in such areas of public health as: chronic or infectious diseases, violence, substance use, reproductive health, mental health, physical environment or other urban health issues. Specialization and experience in advancing and applying multi-level, nested and longitudinal models is specifically sought. Research experience in applying and developing statistical methods relevant to the study of urban populations is also desirable.
