The University of Massachusetts Amherst, School of Public Health and Health Sciences (www.umass.edu/sphhs/) is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor faculty position in Epidemiology. This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years.

Position: The successful candidate will join the faculty in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the Department of Public Health, with an anticipated start date of September, 2007. Responsibilities will include teaching, primarily at the graduate level; research; and advising masters and doctoral students enrolled in MS, MPH and PhD programs. Candidates will be expected to develop their own research program and engage in collaborative research. The Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology consists of five epidemiologists and six biostatisticians actively engaged in research and teaching. Division members collaborate extensively with faculty from the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, other departments on campus, the University’s Medical School, and Baystate Medical Center. Present areas of epidemiologic research include cancer, nutrition, genetics, and reproductive health. The University is located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts, which is home to five colleges (Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, and the University of Massachusetts) and has easy access to several major metropolitan areas.

Qualifications: Candidates for the position must meet the following requirements:
• Ph.D. in Epidemiology or equivalent degree
• Interest in and strong potential for teaching at the graduate level
• Evidence of independent and collaborative research potential

The American Heart Association is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Director, Cardiovascular and Stroke Epidemiology and Research Support Services to be located at our Corporate Office in Dallas, TX. This position reports to the Vice President of the Office of Science and Medicine.

This position acts as the central source of cardiovascular and stroke epidemiological information and consultation for the AHA and its affiliates. The Director provides guidance and consultation for AHA databases and data that will aid in assessment of progress toward AHA strategic goals and the effectiveness of AHA programs. The Director needs to maintain close cooperation among key national health agencies e.g. National Center for Health Statistics, National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, National Institutes of Health, Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control etc. This position provides epidemiological and biostatistical review for all documents produced at the National Center. The director also acts as a epidemiological consultant on major AHA volunteer task forces and serves as the AHA Science staff for the Epidemiology and Prevention Council and other science groups.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in epidemiology or related field, a minimum of 3 years postdoctoral experience, specialized training in use of epidemiological and statistical information as it relates to cardiovascular disease and stroke, knowledge of the major issues and concerns in biomedical science related to cardiovascular and stroke health and disease and ability to manage and work with AHA staff and volunteers.

Assistant or Associate Professor in Epidemiology

Candidates must have a doctorate in Epidemiology and evidence of effective teaching ability. Infectious disease epidemiologists, especially those interested in collaborative research with state and city health departments, are encouraged to apply. However, applicants with research interests outside infectious disease epidemiology are also welcome. Department faculty currently work in the areas of psychiatric epidemiology, epidemiology of aging, cardiovascular disease epidemiology, epidemiology of neurodevelopmental disorders, pediatric epidemiology, and cancer epidemiology. Description The Principle Biostatistician will serve as the senior member of a multidisciplinary Pharmacogenomics team of Molecular geneticists, Pharmacologist, Laboratory Research Associates, biostatisticians, bioinformatics and data management scientists. The successful candidate will be the lead biostatistician within the Pharmacogenomics team and provide statistical support to the J&J, Pharmaceutical R&D, Pharmacogenomics Program responsible for developing the framework for implementing pharmacogenomics/ pharmacogenetics as a routine part of clinical trials. This will involve analyzing genetic data in the context of various types of clinical trials to include creating statistical analysis plans and reports to accompany FDA submissions and provide education in pharmacogenomics through presentations on pharmacogenomics and/or the statistical analysis of pharmacogenomics data. This individual will also have the opportunity to be involved in more exploratory projects such as candidate gene association studies, genome screens, and family-based studies. Involvement in research presentations and publications is encouraged.

This position differs from a Manager of Biostatistics in that the Principle Biostatistician is expected to be a hands-on expert in biostatistical methodology, it's application and any regulatory requirements associated with this methodology, especially with respect to the unique methodology associated with the area of responsibility. As such this position is a senior level technical position and the precursor for the peer review position of Research Fellow.

Qualifications The successful candidate will have a PhD degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Statistical Genetics or Genetic Epidemiology (or in an equivalent discipline) with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry or academia is required. Must have several years of prior experience in handling genetic data. Proficiency in statistical software is necessary. Must have experience in SAS. Additional experience with S-PLUS and/or R is desirable.
Must be self-motivated and capable of working effectively in a team environment and have good communication, presentation, and problem solving skills. In addition, the candidate should have the ability to communicate with non-statisticians to interpret statistical findings. Proficiency working with Statistical Analysis Plans, protocols, and SOP's is also desirable. Knowledge in molecular biology is preferred and extensive statistical programming experience is required.

Description: The Department of Epidemiology and Population Health, School of Public Health and Information Sciences, and the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville are seeking applicants for a position in Cancer Epidemiology at the Assistant Professor level. US Army War College, Carlisle, PA., is looking for some who can help statistically analyze and write reports on results of cohort study of a comprehensive health assessments looking at a myriad of tests including strength, stress, lipid panels, psychosocial, EBCT (heart scan) results, as well as interventions to reduce the risk of CVD on a population that is predominately male with an average age of 43. Data is composed of approximately 280 subjects per year for over 24 years. Interested applicants must be US citizens and eligible for security clearance. 9 month contract 8 hours week for data analysis and research consultation with APFRI staff. The cvd epid data may not be used for dissertation but co-authorship may be possible.
