JOB SUMMARY: Epidemiologist II positions perform professional work involved in the detection of diseases or injuries afflicting human populations, disease patterns or injury prevalence, and their causes and control; and perform related work as required.

Under general supervision, incumbents in this class are responsible for planning, directing and coordinating activities of disease or injury surveillance, control and reporting for one major program area such as food borne disease or trauma, a piece of a very large program such as AIDS, Bioterrorism or Maternal, Family and Child Health, or several smaller programs such as lead reporting and hospital discharge surveillance.

REQUIREMENTS: Examples of qualifying education/experience are:

1. Two years of experience as an Epidemiologist I in the County of San Diego; OR,

2. A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health with specialization in epidemiology, biostatistics, or a related field, AND two (2) years of professional epidemiology experience.

Note: A Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, life science or a closely related field from an accredited college of university is highly desirable.

ALSO REQUIRED: A valid California class C driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment in this class, is required at time of appointment, or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel. Employees in this class may be required to use their own vehicle.

Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanor and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and recency. Prior to appointment, candidates will be subject to a thorough background investigation.

GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION

Citizenship Requirements and Immigration Status. Pursuant to the Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act, the County hires only U.S. citizens and lawfully authorized alien workers. Individuals employed in executive-level positions or in positions subject to Peace Officer Standards and Training must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S.

Educational Requirements. For U.S. college or university degrees to be considered, the institution or program must be accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For degrees received outside of the U.S. to be considered, applicants must submit an educational evaluation report from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services.

Pre-Employment Requirements. Appointment to County service is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment medical examinations which include drug and alcohol screening. Written multiple choice answer sheet scoring may be checked within 10 calendar days from the postmark on the test results notice.

Social Security Card. Must be presented at the time of employment.

Veterans Preference Points. The National Veterinary Institute now invites applications from exceptional candidates for a position as Senior Scientist in the Department of Virology at Lindholm. The position is on a permanent basis and the Department will support exceptional candidates with start-up funds and technical assistance for the first 1-3 years after which most activities are expected to be funded from external grants.

The likely candidate holds a biological relevant degree (in particular we encourage Veterinarians to apply) together with a PhD including solid experimental experience in e.g. virology or molecular biology, detailed quantitative studies, field and molecular epidemiology and likely working experience in virology, diagnostics, pathology or epidemiology.

A positive attitude and good interpersonal skills are essential. An evaluation of the applicants' scientific qualifications will be carried out in accordance with current regulations.

The scientist will participate in research on foot-and-mouth disease and possible other virus vesicular diseases of livestock in close collaboration with the Head of Section for Vesicular Virus Diseases, Research Professor Søren Alexandersen, as well as a number of Senior and Junior Scientists in the Section. The Section is currently moving to a newly build, state-of-the-art facility with maximum containment for safe experimental work on highly infectious animal viruses, in particular foot-and-mouth disease virus. The new unit also includes dedicated small and large animal facilities as well as complete laboratory facilities, post mortem room and technical installations to assure safe operation.

The successful Senior Scientist will be expected to help jump start the research facilities in the facility in particular in close collaboration with the Research Professor and to develop a top-level international research area within foot-and-mouth disease while still keeping the work useful for the national and international authorities funding most of the work. The selected candidate will have a considerable degree of freedom to select the specific area of interest, however, it must be stressed that the activities in the new facility should all be well coordinated and give an optimal scientific and applied outcome.

The Senior Scientist is expected to produce international publications describing results obtained. In addition, the Senior Scientist are also expected to participate with maybe 25% of his/her time in the other ongoing activities of the laboratory aimed at advancing the scientific understanding of the pathogenesis, excretion, persistence and transmission of foot-and-mouth disease in close reference to Research Professor Søren Alexandersen.

Terms of employment are according to the relevant collective agreement for academics.

The place of work is Lindholm Island between Moen and Zealand.

Due to work with virus diseases not occurring in Denmark (OIE (former) list A diseases) the employee is not allowed to hold or get in contact with cloven-hoofed animals or have commercial poultry farming. The Department of International Health of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health seeks candidates for a tenure-track assistant professor in the area of humanitarian assistance. The position will be in the Health Systems Program of the Department of International Health.

Eligible candidates should have a PhD or MD with experience in field-based research in the context of natural disasters, conflict, and complex emergencies in multiple international settings. The mission of the program is to advance the knowledge base toward eliminating disparities in the prevention and treatment of cancer. The Department of International Health of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in the Social and Behavioral and Interventions (SBI) program. The position is available immediately.

Qualifications include an earned doctoral degree in a social science discipline (psychology, sociology, anthropology) or public health (with specialization in social science or a related field), and a minimum of three years experience in research or practice in lower and middle income countries. Experience in the design, implementation and evaluation of behavior change interventions at the local or national levels is desirable. A record of scholarly publication, research funding, teaching and field experience is required.

Responsibilities include establishing an independent research agenda through extramural funding, teaching, advising in the graduate program, and service to the community and the field of public health. Research areas of interest include health behaviors and interventions associated with significant burdens of disease and disability in developing countries in such areas as malaria, HIV/AIDS, newly emerging infections, chronic disease and accidents.

The Department of International Health leads the field in research, teaching and service on health issues relevant to lower and middle income countries and underserved populations. The SBI program is dedicated to qualitative and quantitative social science research and training related to health interventions. It has 11 affiliated full-time faculty with substantial research projects in multiple settings, including Tanzania, India, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Mali, Peru, Nigeria and Native American and First Nations communities. The broad range of faculty research includes work on HIV/AIDS, malaria, human nutrition and maternal and child health. We offer academic training at the masters and doctoral levels and attract top students in the field.

The Division of Health Services Management and Policy at The Ohio State University College of Public Health seeks candidates for the newly endowed Loebs Professorship in Health Services Management and Policy.

Senior scholars with highly distinguished records of academic achievement and research will be considered for the Professorship. The successful candidate will be nationally recognized in the areas of health care management, health policy, health economics, health care systems, quality of care, or related fields. Candidates must possess a PhD or equivalent degree. An outstanding record of high-quality research and external research funding is required. The candidate should have demonstrated experience and accomplishments in graduate education and mentoring of doctoral students. Professional experience in the health care field is preferred for the position, but not required.

The Division of Health Services Management and Policy’s Master of Health Administration program is 12th nationally in the latest ranking of graduate programs published by U.S. News & World Report. Job Description:

The Ohio State University College of Public Health’s Division of Environmental Health Sciences, in partnership with the OSU College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences’ Department of Food Science and Technology, is searching for an Assistant (or Associate) Professor in environmental microbiology. This tenure-track faculty position is a joint appointment between the Division of Environmental Health Sciences (70%) and the Department of Food Science and Technology (30%). The position will be available starting the autumn of 2008. This is one of several faculty positions made possible by a Targeted Investment in Excellence (TIE) in Public Health Preparedness for Infectious Diseases (PHPID). This special award from the OSU Office of Academic Affairs represents an exciting collaboration in a fast-growing, collegial environment. To qualify, the candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in environmental microbiology, environmental health sciences, or related fields.

Responsibilities:

Develop a well-funded research program in environmental microbiology leading to publications in peer-reviewed high-impact journals.
Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in environmental microbiology and advise graduate students.
Collaborate with faculty within the TIE program and with OSU scholars working in public health, food safety, infectious diseases, preparedness, and water microbiology.
Contribute to relevant professional societies aiming to enhance the national and international reputation of home departments and Colleges.

Job Description:

Provide statewide leadership for MU Extension’s health education program with a focus on chronic disease prevention and management. The purpose of this position is to produce effective community health education programs in Missouri communities using the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine and MU Extension as a base. Specifically, work collaboratively with other state and regional extension specialist, teaching and research faculty, Missouri residents and other stakeholders to implement health education strategies that will aid in the prevention of chronic health conditions and/or their complications.

Qualifications: A master’s degree (Ph.D. preferred) in public health, community health, health education or closely related field, and three years experience of increasing responsibility in the development of community based health education programs is required.

Ability to travel and to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required to fulfill assigned responsibilities.


CHES certification is preferred.
