Summary: Apply technical expertise and experience to plan, coordinate, design, supervise and carry out molecular epidemiologic research work..

Duties and Responsibilities:
' Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, and participates in a series of experiments designed to supply: specific information as a part of a larger molecular epidemiologic project; answer to questions in a limited field; or, in development of improved techniques.
' Provide supervision of pre-doctoral student and other junior lab personnel in the technical and safety aspects of the laboratory.
' Perform advanced laboratory research work with independent judgment and execution of experiments.
' Manually work with human biological samples. Handles tissue culture including maintain cultured cells in the tissue culture facility, freeze and store cells under liquid nitrogen. Perform experiments in cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, cell biology and molecular biology.
' Compiles, writes, and submits reports to superior and submit results of research for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This will include submissions with several co-authors and primary authors.
' Present lectures, using visual aids, in a clear and understandable manner to other faculty, fellows, graduate students or others interested in the field of molecular epidemiology.
' Requires a basic knowledge in the proper handling of hazardous chemicals and radioactivity.
' Maintenance of accurate and complete records of patient data on a daily basis.
' Maintain permanent logs for blood, tissue, DNA samples.
' Maintain lab results in a clear and accurate manner. Be able to communicate data to other laboratory personnel. Assist in all phases of a molecular epidemiology study.

Required: PhD in a natural or Biomedical Science

Preferred: Five years of related experience, part of which involved research work at MDACC.

Genetic Epidemiologist Baylor College of Medicine

The Department of Medicine, Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Baylor College of Medicine, in conjunction with the Clinical Epidemiology and Outcomes program at the Houston Center for Quality of Care and Utilization Studies, Michael E. Debakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center, seeks candidates with research interests in genetic or molecular epidemiology of GI or liver disease. General emphasis will be on design and analysis of population-based studies to establish genetic causes of GI disease and to elucidate gene-environment interactions. The successful candidate is expected to develop an independent research program and to participate in collaborative research activities within the section. This position requires cultivation of research network at BCM and other Texas Medical Center institutions.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral degree in epidemiology or have a medical degree with master’s level training in epidemiology.

Selection at the Assistant Professor level will be based on evidence of clear potential for outstanding future contributions, including ability to develop externally funded research, proven ability to collaborate, and willingness to contribute to the research mission of the section. At the Associate Professor level, selection will be based on evidence of established, original sponsored research including grant awards received, peer-reviewed publications, and other contributions to the field of genetic/molecular epidemiology.

Qualifications: The successful candidate shall have an earned doctorate in behavioral or social science with training and experience in public health research or a professional degree (e.g., MD) with additional training in behavioral science. Candidates must show evidence of undergraduate or graduate teaching experience, have peer reviewed publications, and have experience with grant proposal writing and show potential for grant procurement. The University of Sydney’s Westmead Institute for Cancer Research, a division of Westmead Millennium Institute, is focussed on researching the molecular and cellular bases of cancer and leukaemia. The Institute also conducts groundbreaking clinical trials furthering medical progress in melanoma, renal cell carcinoma and breast cancer, as well as various other forms of solid tumour cancers.

The Institute’s Medical Oncology Clinical Trials Unit is currently seeking a proactive and dedicated Clinical Trials Manager to take on a senior position managing our trials. Suited to this role is someone experienced in clinical trials, who is looking to take the next step in their career by contributing to truly innovative research and supporting the ambitious goals of the Unit.

Working within a cohesive team environment, you will be responsible for medical oncology clinical trials and contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures. As such, this role is best suited to a strong and confident communicator who can successfully liaise and negotiate contracts for the funding of clinical trials, solve complex problems, and take responsibility for the coordination of clinical trials. You will also apply your strong organisational abilities and lateral thinking to provide effective oversight of trial progress, manage resources and seek out potential new opportunities within the Unit.

Your solid attention to detail and analytical thinking skills will see you effectively manage finances, OH&S and infrastructure, including the preparation of quarterly budgets and contracts. Furthermore, you will review new protocols for the Unit and represent clinical trials at the strategic planning level for all collaborating hospitals.

To succeed, you will have extensive experience in the conduct of clinical trials for cancer research within a medical or pharmaceutical environment. Although specific management experience is not required, you will need to demonstrate an appropriate skill set with particular strengths in communication, negotiation and leadership. Postgraduate qualifications in a business, medical or scientific field will be highly advantageous.

The Mailman School of Public Health Department of Epidemiology is recruiting an Associate Research Scientist to contribute to several ongoing longitudinal studies assessing novel cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors. The specific aim of these studies is to use periodontal infection models to investigate the potential for infection and inflammation to initiate and/or accelerate subclinical atherosclerotic development leading to clinical CVD events. Responsibilities will include ad hoc epidemiologic design consultation; management of multiple databases related to ongoing and previous data collection; coordination of data backup and transfers between international research studies; oversight of data quality assurance and control; data analysis; manuscript development; assisting in the development and implementation of research proposals, preparation and presentation of findings at conferences and meetings.



Requirements
Requirements: Candidate must have a doctorate in epidemiology and a minimum of six years of research experience. Computer proficiency with excellent data management and data analysis skills are required, including extensive knowledge of SAS and Excel, and a working knowledge of SPSS and R statistical software packages. Ability to manage and analyze data on remote servers in a UNIX environment. Familiarity with epidemiological design and statistical analysis of DNA-microarray studies. The candidate should have advanced training in cardiovascular epidemiology as evidenced by a predoctoral or postdoctoral CVD fellowship (NIH preferred), as well as teaching experience related to the field. Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential.

The International Health Program of the School of Public Health is seeking to appoint a lecturer in International Public Health (Social Sciences). The appointee will contribute their experience and expertise in public health social science theory and practice to the teaching and research of the International Public Health team.

The lecturer will be required to design, deliver and coordinate social science based units of study in International Public Health and contribute to assessment of student learning. A willingness to participate in wider School of Public Health committees and seminars is also required. The appointee will conduct research in Health Social Science issues relevant to International Public Health, contribute to the development of a cross-disciplinary international research team, and be involved in the preparation of research grant applications and publications.

This position provides a unique opportunity to develop Social Science teaching and research in a leading school of Public Health. Experience in the conduct of Public Health Social Science research in international settings is essential as is an ability to produce high quality written work.

The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree in social science, preferably related to Public Health, and a track record of Public Health Social research publications. If not holding a doctoral degree, the appointee will be encouraged to enroll in a PhD (in International Health) on a topic related to Public Health Social Sciences at some time during their appointment. The appointee may be required to undertake international travel as part of their research and teaching responsibilities.
