Coastal Carolina University, Program in Health Promotion, Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, in the Spadoni College of Education, invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions beginning in August 2008.
The Bachelor of Science degree in Health Promotion has been the fastest growing program on the Coastal Carolina University campus in the last 5 years, currently serving over 340 undergraduate students. We seek applicants with earned Doctorates in Public Health, Community Health, or Health Promotion who will actively participate in the continued development of the major. Candidates must provide evidence of scholarly productivity, excellence in teaching, and CHES certification. Responsibilities will include teaching content and process undergraduate courses in areas such as philosophy and principles of health promotion/education, health communication, organization, policy, and administrative management, family life and sexuality, international health, community/behavioral health, epidemiology, philosophy and principles of health promotion/education, personal health, or other assigned support courses. Both positions require advisement of undergraduate students, mentoring of student research, establishment of outstanding scholarship and professional service/outreach, collaboration with related academic programs, assisting in curriculum development, and supporting SABPAC undergraduate program approval efforts.

Coastal Carolina University is a public mid-sized, comprehensive liberal arts-oriented institution. Coastal Carolina University is located in Conway, South Carolina, just nine miles from the Atlantic coastal resort Myrtle Beach, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the nation. The Department of Community Health Systems (CHS) and the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SBS) in the School of Nursing announce searches for two tenure track faculty positions (one for each department) to be filled by September 2008. Appointments will be at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, depending upon the finalist's level of experience. Commensurate with the community health focus of the Departments, a background in nursing, public health, epidemiology, international health research and/or health services research is preferred. We are seeking candidates with promising and/or demonstrated research career that will be synergistic with departmental teaching, research directions and future plans, and who are academically prepared to teach in SBS (Health Policy Programs) or in one or more of the graduate nursing specialties in CHS (Advanced Community Health & International Nursing, Occupational & Environmental Health Nursing, Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing, Adult Nurse Practitioner Program, and Nursing Administration) and to develop a program in global health policy. Candidates must be willing and able to: contribute to the leadership of one of these specific nursing specialties in the context of global health nursing; teach and advise students in the masters and doctoral programs; collaborate with faculty from across the School of Nursing to develop global health research within the School. Major Areas of Responsibility

1. Teaching and advising masters and doctoral students in nursing.
2. Developing/establishing a program of research in global health nursing that is synergistic with emphases of the specialty and department and/or other organized research units on campus.
3. Disseminating research knowledge and engaging in professional activities at local, regional, national and international levels.
4. Contributing to the leadership and direction of UCSF, the School of Nursing and either the Department of Community Health Systems or the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Tenure track Assistant Professor in the area of viral evolution at the University of Nebraska Center for Virology and the School of Biological Sciences. Candidates will be expected to develop a nationally recognized research program emphasizing viral evolution. Specific area of research open; appropriate examples of research interests include evolutionary genetics examining virus adaptation, comparative genomics of viral genomes and molecular epidemiology of emerging viral diseases. Job Description:

Position: Assistant/Associate (Tenure Track) in Obesity Prevention and Control. The Department of Health and Human Performance at the University of Houston is seeking a health specialist with demonstrable research skills in the area of obesity studies. The position is a nine-month appointment with summer school teaching optional. Effective date of appointment will be August, 2008.

Qualifications: Required: Earned doctorate in physiology, epidemiology, nutrition or psychology with an established record of investigating facets of obesity and associated health problems; demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high quality research; demonstrated potential to engage in collaborative research projects with medical and governmental agencies located in Houston; a record of externally funded research; graduate and undergraduate teaching and student mentorship.

Responsibilities: Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in health, nutrition, epidemiology, physical activity and/or physiology. Train graduate students in area of specialization with an emphasis on obesity issues. Develop and maintain a rigorous and externally funded scholarly research program. Perform service to the department, college, university and the profession. Contribute to the development of the recently established Obesity Research Center.

The College is staffed by over 44 full-time faculty members and serves more than 1,300 students. It is nationally recognized for its innovative research in Hispanic health and health disparities. Its strong research program has generated more than $26 million in funding in the past three years. The Department of Health Promotion (DHP) has a history of excellence in interdisciplinary research, teaching, and community service. The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion and a Master of Public Health. Departmental faculty also participate in the PhD Program in Interdisciplinary Health Sciences administered by the College of Health Sciences. The DHP currently has approximately 175 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students. Its nine full-time faculty are nationally recognized for their research on Hispanic/border and international populations.

The Lifespan Health Research Center (LHRC) at Wright State University's Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Community Health is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending upon qualifications. This is a full-time research position. The successful candidate will have research interests and training that complement and/or augment those of the current faculty (e.g., epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, human biology, anatomy, physical anthropology, exercise science, biostatistics or a related field). The LHRC conducts large, primarily family- and community-based studies of complex disease risks. These include cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, type II diabetes, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis. In particular, much of the research conducted at the LHRC is on early precursors of adult onset diseases using data from the Fels Longitudinal Study.
Education and Experience: The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in their field (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., etc.), and at least one year of post-doctoral training. For a position at the Assistant Professor level the successful candidate must have a beginning record of publication demonstrating excellence in research, and a record of grant funding commensurate with their career stage (e.g., pre- and/or post-doctoral research funding, young investigator award, etc.). For a position at the Associate Professor level the successful candidate must have an established record of publication demonstrating excellence in research, and a record of grant funding commensurate with their career stage (e.g., NIH R01 award). Qualifications: Applicants must possess a doctoral degree in epidemiology, public health, medicine or a related field. Research experience in molecular/genetic epidemiology is required. We particularly welcome applicants with interests in the molecular/genetic aspects of cancer or chronic disease.
Demonstrated experience or potential for assuming administrative and leadership roles in a School of Medicine or School of Public Health setting are highly desirable. Preference will be given to candidates with strong communication abilities. Candidates must have the ability to work cooperatively and collegially within a diverse environment.

Experience working on community-based intervention programs and/or observational studies is highly desirable. The applicant should have the ability to form an interdisciplinary network of collaborators with expertise relevant to molecular/genetic epidemiology. He/she should have the ability to work collaboratively with public health agencies, clinicians, epidemiologists, statisticians, and community groups concerned with epidemiology, prevention and control of chronic diseases. Experience in project administration and fiscal management is desirable.



Organization Description: The Department of Public Health Sciences (http://phs.ucdavis.edu/) is a major research and teaching department in the School of Medicine, with 25 full-time faculty members. In addition to epidemiologic research within the Department, there is active collaboration with many faculty in other departments and centers of the School of Medicine such as the Clinical and Translational Research Center, the Cancer Center, the M.I.N.D.Institute, the Center for Environmental Health Science, and the Alzheimer’s Disease Center. Collaborations also exist with other faculty on the UC Davis campus, including in the School of Veterinary Medicine, the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science, the Center for Health and the Environment, and elsewhere. Areas of active research in the Department include occupational/ environmental health, cancer, reproductive and women’s health, aging, nutrition, cardiopulmonary disease and injuries/ accidents. Department faculty are principal investigators and collaborators on many large cohort studies in addition to work on a wide range of other epidemiologic studies and clinical trials. We offer a Master’s in Public Health program on the UC Davis campus. Safe Kids Worldwide is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C., and the staff of Safe Kids Worldwide is hired and paid by Children’s National Medical Center.

Responsibilities:

Assists with the research, statistics, and development of childhood injury program.

Assists with data collection, research, statistical evaluation and proposal writing. Oversees the tracking of sources of childhood injury data. Designs survey instruments, primary research data methods and program evaluations. Analyzes injury data on existing prevention programs and its usefulness to Safe Kids. Provides data and statistical information for Safe Kids’ Web site and fact sheets.

Assists with the development of injury-specific program strategies and support materials. Provides strategies and assistance to develop an injury prevention program based on research and statistical data from the injury prevention field. Coordinates and provides leadership for projects with peer organizations and sponsors. Serves as Safe Kids liaison to organizations supplying data and research assistance.

Responds to requests from coalitions, Safe Kids staff, and the general public. Provides accurate and timely responses to requests for injury prevention information. Provides assistance to coalitions with statistical information and facts on childhood injuries and injury prevention. Serves as a resource for coalitions by collecting and analyzing state and local injury data.


Evaluates resource materials for suitability of dissemination and conducts conference presentations. Coordinates and gathers data and information for Safe Kids resources and products. Coordinates and presents Safe Kids information to coalition leaders, sponsors and outside organizations. Provides leadership and assistance for program workshops at the annual Safe Kids Leadership Conference. Integrates Teleform Automated Data processing software into all Safe Kids data collection activities including coalition self-assessments, CCLC evaluations, etc.

Monitors and facilitates papers and presentations documenting Safe Kids research findings. Monitors scholarly journals to increase the knowledge base in current injury research methodology and developments across all risk areas. Facilitates the utilization of national injury databases for grant writing, program planning and media use. Authors (co-authors) papers and presentations documenting Safe Kids research findings for submission to peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Presents Safe Kids research findings to coalition coordinators, sponsors and other organizations within the public health community.


Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Master’s preferred.
Generalist in Injury Prevention and Research.
Three to five years or more of related progressive program experience. Public speaking experience preferred.
Professional technical writing experience required (educational material or product utilization).
Extensive coursework in epidemiology and/or biostatistics.
Knowledge of SPSS, SAS or other statistical software, advanced level computer skills with Microsoft Word.
Intermediate proficiency with the Microsoft Office product suite.
Basic - Intermediate HTML skill set as well as the ability to conduct work flow analysis within the program’s context.

Specific requirements for the position are: 1) previous training in epidemiology or a related field with a degree of (a) PhD, DrPH, ScD or equivalent; or (b) MD or DDS or equivalent with MPH or MS or equivalent in epidemiology or related field; 2) research experience in human infectious disease epidemiology; 3) relevant publication record in peer-reviewed journals; 4) graduate level or other teaching experience; and 5) applicants for the Assistant Professor level must have at least 2 years of relevant experience in a faculty position. An interest and experience in developing programs with a global health focus is encouraged. Primary criteria for evaluation are training background, relevant research experience, publications in peer-reviewed journals, and evidence of successful graduate level or other teaching. Rank of appointment will depend on level of experience.


Organization Description: The Division of Epidemiology and Community Health (http://www.epi.umn.edu) provides a rich and collaborative environment for the investigation of the etiology, prevention, and control of chronic and infectious diseases. It has over 50 primary faculty who bring in over $26 million annually in sponsored research grants, and an additional 71 adjunct faculty. It currently enrolls 50 PhD students in it's epidemiology program, and 471 MPH and MS students.

Description
The Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan seeks to make an appointment at the level of Assistant Research Scientist in the Health and Retirement Study program. The appointee would have responsibility in several related areas, appropriate to their skills. Potential areas include the collection and validation of physical tests and biological specimen data, the validation of self-reported health data using linked Medicare claims data, the development of questionnaire content, and analysis of survey response and the construction of sampling weights. The position will involve collaboration with project investigators and research staff at multiple institutions. The initial appointment will cover 100 percent of time. Over time, the appointee will have an opportunity to develop his or her own research activities and seek alternate funding to cover up to a .50 fraction.


Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following interests and qualifications: Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related discipline required, along with hands-on experience in the analysis of longitudinal data, with issues involved in the administration of survey research, including the development of questionnaires, data management and documentation. Publications that demonstrate an understanding of scientific and methodological issues in health and aging will also be evaluated. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with HRS data, Medicare claims data, and/or other national surveys such as MCBS, MEPS, and NHANES.

Description
Moffitt Cancer Center’s Risk Assessment, Detection & Intervention Program invites applications for a tenure-earning faculty appointment at the level of Assistant Member. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in cancer epidemiology as demonstrated by publications in cancer epidemiology. Expertise in the epidemiology of lung cancers is preferred.

Faculty of the Moffitt Cancer Center are eligible for academic appointments at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. Academic rank is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Moffitt Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, is a rapidly growing Center affiliated with the University of South Florida and is committed to education through a wide range of residency and fellowship programs.

The Cancer Center is comprised of a large ambulatory care facility, a 162-bed hospital, with a 26-bed blood and marrow transplant program, 12 state of the art operating suites, a 22 bed intensive care unit, a high volume screening program, and a basic science research facility. The Moffitt Research Institute is comprised of approximately 140 Principal Investigators, 58 laboratories, and 306,000 square feet of research space.

The goal of the Risk Assessment, Detection, and Intervention (RADI) Program is to contribute to the prevention of cancer mortality through improved understanding of etiology, clinical prevention among high-risk individuals and improved methods of early detection of cancer. To achieve this goal, the RADI program is structured around the following aims: identify genetic factors associated with cancer risk and outcome; evaluate environmental factors associated with cancer risk and outcome; and, develop, identify and evaluate biomarkers for the early detection of cancer.

Job Description:

The Department of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the College of Public Health, University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC), is recruiting for three new state-funded, tenure-track faculty positions. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in epidemiology and experience in conducting individually-initiated and collaborative epidemiological research. Teaching experience at the graduate level is desirable. Epidemiologists in all areas are encouraged to apply, although preference will be given to candidates with expertise in cancer epidemiology, communicable diseases, diabetes/cardiovascular diseases or related areas.

The successful candidate will be expected to have expertise in and to lead initiatives in cancer control and etiologic research with a focus on one of the following areas: tobacco related cancers, prostate cancer, breast cancer, molecular epidemiology or nutritional epidemiology.

We are seeking an outstanding faculty member to take a leadership role in developing research in the area of quality, patient safety, and clinical informatics. The individual will work in collaboration with members of the Departments of Public Health, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics as well as other colleagues at Weill Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital. The overall mission is to develop innovative research programs to evaluate quality, outcomes, and effectiveness of health care, and to help develop and evaluate solutions, particularly information technology solutions, to identified problems in health care delivery. If desired, the individual will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Health Information Technology Evaluation Collaborative (HITEC), based at Weill Cornell Medical College. HITEC is a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional academic collaborative that develops methodologies for evaluating the use and effects of health information technology in New York State.

The position requires formal research training. Individuals with clinical training in any field, including pediatrics and internal medicine, are invited to apply. The faculty member will receive a faculty appointment to Weill Medical College of Cornell University as an Assistant or Associate Professor (depending on experience), with the expectation that he or she will advance in academic rank consistent with the policies of the faculty. If appropriate, the Faculty member will also receive an appointment in the faculty member’s clinical discipline. As a member of the College faculty, the candidate will be appointed to the Medical Staff of New York Presbyterian Hospital as an Assistant or Associate Attending Physician.

The main duties for the position are listed below:

1. Development of research studies in the areas of health informatics and quality of care, outcomes research, cost-effectiveness research, and/or related disciplines.
2. Participation in and supervision of study design, data collection, data analysis, and presentation of study findings. The Faculty member will develop studies for which he or she is primarily responsible, as well as participate in ongoing and new studies with Departmental faculty. Dr. Kaushal and HITEC have a wide array of ongoing studies.
3. Presentation of study findings will include local presentations, presentations at regional and national society meetings, and publications in peer reviewed medical literature.
4. Development of new grant opportunities in collaboration with other faculty members of the department. External funding from governmental and foundation sources will be developed in appropriate research and programmatic areas.
5. Participation in educational programs, including teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows within the College and the Hospital.
6. Clinical Activities: If desired, the Faculty member may devote time to clinical activities, typically consisting of 20% of their effort. These activities may include any of the following: seeing patients in his or her clinical discipline, supervising residents and medical students either at New York Presbyterian Hospital or at one of the System sponsored hospitals, and serving as the attending physician on the appropriate clinical service at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Ph.D. and/or an MD from an accredited school. MDs will be board eligible/certified in his or her specialty field. Additionally, the candidate will be fellowship trained in an appropriate field, such as clinical effectiveness research, medical outcomes research, health services research, clinical epidemiology, clinical informatics or related fields.

Position Description: Reporting to the Dean of the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health, the successful applicants will teach graduate-level courses to students in the M.P.H. and Dr.P.H. programs; be actively involved in extramurally funded, multidisciplinary research; and provide service/outreach to the public health community. Successful candidates will be expected to provide academic and research advisement to students, promote and sustain interdisciplinary dialogue, hold active membership in professional associations, and serve on committees and participate in official activities at the college and university levels. The positions are 9-month appointments, and the salaries are competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Description: Drexel University College of Medicine's (DUCOM) Institute for Women's Health and Leadership (IWHL) seeks a senior women's health researcher to join the College of Medicine faculty to establish and direct a new Center for Women's Health Research. DUCOM is the largest private medical school in the US and is a consolidation of two venerable medical schools with rich and intertwined histories: Hahnemann Medical College and Woman's Medical College/Medical College of Pennsylvania. IWHL is a multidisciplinary institute that was designated as a National Center of Excellence by the US Department of Health and Human Services in 1996. 'Excellence in Women's Health and Leadership' is one of four dominant themes in DUCOM's Strategic Plan for the next five years, and the new Center for Women's Health Research is a major initiative in that focus area. While maintaining an independent program of research, the Director of Women's Health Research will be expected to provide leadership in the development, enhancement, and promotion of women's health research at Drexel. Research in the specific areas including breast cancer, infectious and inflammatory diseases, and reproductive and perinatal epidemiology, would complement existing strengths and would be considered advantageous. In addition, because DUCOM is committed to developing excellence in research on endocrinology/obesity, menopause and mental health/behavioral health, candidates with expertise in these areas are encouraged to apply. Qualifications: IWHL seeks applications from individuals with at least 10 years of experience in acquiring and implementing large federal research grants focused on women's health and building a successful research program, as well as mentoring faculty and trainees in their development as independent investigators. Duties: The primary role for the successful candidate is to conduct research that is aimed at improving the identification of behavioral health problems and the delivery of mental health care or substance abuse services for older adults in Florida or nationally and which will be sustainable through external funding. To complement current faculty members' interests, we are especially interested in applicants with strong quantitative/statistical skills and experience with one or more of the following priorities: treatment of depression, identification of risk for and prevention of suicide, disparities in behavioral health service delivery for racial/ethnic minorities, epidemiology of behavioral health disorders, mental health services in long-term care, and treatment of substance misuse. Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate from an accredited university in a field related to mental health or gerontology for conducting research in behavioral health services (mental health and/or substance abuse) relevant to older adults. For Assistant Professor, the doctorate must be earned prior to the start of employment and the record must demonstrate promise for future external funding. For Associate Professor, the candidate must have a minimum of five years experience in mental health or substance abuse services research and a record of successful external funding and peer-reviewed publication.

Preferred Qualifications: A demonstrated record or recognized potential for: published research related to behavioral health services for elders; external, competitive grant funding related to this field; working productively with diverse populations; expertise in quantitative research methods and advanced statistical procedures; and collaboration with publicly-funded mental health, substance abuse, and/or aging systems.

The successful candidate will serve as the core epidemiology member in the multi-college specialization in Fish and Wildlife Disease Ecology and Conservation Medicine. They will be expected to develop independent and collaborative research in wildlife disease epidemiology and/or diseases affecting wildlife, livestock, and humans. Participate in teaching a graduate-level course in wildlife diseases and wildlife disease epidemiology. Participate in teaching a senior-level undergraduate course and laboratory (FW 423 and FW 423L, Principles of Fish and Wildlife Disease) and take leadership role in an elective clerkship for Junior and senior veterinary students interested in Wildlife diseases. They will interact with Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Michigan Department of Agriculture, Michigan Department of Community Health and other local, state and federal groups on issues related to preventing and mitigating the spread of wildlife-borne diseases, both within wildlife populations, between wildlife and domestic animal populations, and between wildlife, domestic animal, and human populations. The expected time distributions in responsibilities will include 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% outreach.

QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate in veterinary medicine (DVM, VMD, or equivalent) and Ph.D. in epidemiology, public health, or Population Medicine. Demonstrated interest in and/or experience with wildlife biology, with a strong background in epidemiology. Demonstrated experience with wildlife/human/domestic animal interactions with an emphasis on disease mitigation will be an advantage. Strong communication skills with a demonstrated or potential ability to obtain extramural funding and ability to publish in the scientific and popular arenas. Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams as well as interact with state, federal and international agencies is highly desirable.

Key roles and responsibilities
• Work with participating ministries to set a research agenda that is consistent with government priorities for children and youth in Alberta. Identify information needed for strategic decision making, and design and develop research projects to meet these needs using cross-ministry administrative data. Provide research expertise that guides project development. Manage expectations and provide accurate and clear descriptions of research products that will best support public policymaking.
• Maintain familiarity with scientific literature in social and public-policy related studies using population-based, anonymised government administrative data to inform Government policymaking. Keep up-to-date on issues and changes in government policies, directions, and strategic priorities related to children and youth.
• Work with the project working group which consists of representatives from relevant ministries to guide research process. Transform child and youth data into information and insights that support decision making and service delivery within the broad scope of provincial government. Lead the CYDL research team to conduct research projects including literature review, research design, data analysis, interpretation and preparation of final research product.
• As a strong knowledge broker, develop innovative approaches to disseminate research results to promote the utilization of scientific information for evidence-based decision making.

Qualifications
PhD in a relevant field of study, with several years related research and research mangement experience is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered. A strong understanding of government business would be advantageous. A high degree of analytical, interpretative, evaluative and creative thinking is essential to identify relevant policy issues, generate research questions, and provide innovative solutions. Clear and precise written and oral communication style is critical for communication with multiple stakeholders and impart research results.

Data Manager/Programmer

Key Roles and Responsibilities
· Design, develop, maintain and manage databases for CYDL that meet the requirements for receiving data from multiple data sources while ensuring data security and confidentiality. Establish a data joining environment that is accurate and secure. Develop and maintain metadata for CYDL.
· Process data using a range of computer applications and database systems to support data cleaning, linkage, and analysis. Develop procedures to ensure data integrity. Perform ongoing assessments and analytical reviews to validate data quality and to verify the integrity of multiple data sources. Data management activities must be characterized by due diligence and meticulous attention to detail, completeness, accuracy, consistency, accessibility and timeliness.
· Work with partnering ministries to facilitate data transfer by setting data standards, protocols, and encryption. Develop procedures to safeguard the data transferring process. As a technical representative from CYDL, you will participate and assist in the establishment of a cross-walk between databases across ministries

Qualifications
Completion of a degree in Computing Science with extensive experience in database design and management is required. Equivalencies are considered. Proficiency in one or more statistical analysis tools such SAS, SPSS and database management tools such as SQL query are essential. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical. Supplimentary education, training or experience in research and data linkage is desirable.

The Department of Global and Community Health in the College of Health and Human Services invites applications for a tenure track assistant/associate professor position in epidemiology to begin in August 2008. Candidates with interests in chronic disease epidemiology or environmental epidemiology are especially encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will conduct independent and collaborative research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and assist in the development of proposed MPH and PhD programs in epidemiology.

A doctoral degree in epidemiology or MD/MPH in a closely related discipline is required for the position. Candidates must have a focused research agenda and high potential for developing a successful program of research. Candidates with a research agenda that complements existing research programs within the department including global epidemiology, chronic disease and disability, rehabilitation science, nutrition, community health, and gerontology are preferred.
