Position Description: Under the direction of the Epidemiology and Surveillance Group Manager/HIV Surveillance Coordinator, performs advanced level epidemiological work within the HIV/STD Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch. Performs statistical analyses using advanced statistical software, interprets results, and writes articles, reports and sections of grant proposals related to HIV/AIDS epidemiology. Uses SAS, Access, HARS, STD*MIS and various other software applications to analyze data. Monitors the quality of the HARS database and contributes to epidemiologic reports disseminated to the Unit and DSHS staff, the public, and the public health and medical communities.

Essential Job Functions: EJF 1: Monitors the quality of the data HARS data. Conducts analyses using advanced statistical software to evaluate the quality of the HARS data at the DSHS Central Office and each of the HARS sites on a monthly basis. Responsible for designing analysis plans and interpreting data. Produces reports used by the Central Office and the HARS sites to resolve data quality issues and to reconcile duplicates in the HARS database. Works with the CDC to correct data errors in the HARS database. Particpates in site reviews of HIV reporting entities to assess performance of the site.(40%) EJF 2: Creates HIV/STD epidemiologic reports, and writes HIV/AIDS epidemiologic sections of DSHS-published quarterly and annual reports, special reports, and newsletters. Interprets results of epidemiologic and statistical analyses. Proposes topics for manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and collaborates with other staff to write manuscripts. Presents HIV/STD-related epidemiologic findings at conferences, special meetings, and scientific society and group meetings. (20%) EFJ 3: Utilizes appropriate epidemiologic and statistical methods in data analysis using SAS, HARS, PRODAS, STD*MIS, Access and various other databases, graphics, mapping, spreadsheet, and word processing applications. Develops databases as needed for data collection used for special projects and auxilliary needs beyond the HARS surveillance system. Designs, oversees and participates in the production of summay data for epidemiologic and statistical updates of HIV/STD-related data intended for public release. (20%) EFJ 4: Applies epidemiology principles and methods to provide the epidemiologic component of multiple grant proposals and progress reports. For progress reports, conducts analyses to describe how HIV/AIDS surveillance objectives have been met. (10%) EFJ 5: Contributes to the development of training materials for training HARS field staff. (5%) EFJ 6: Other HIV/AIDS/STD epidemiologic duties as assigned (5%)

Qualifications: Three years of experience in a public health agency; a year of public health education may substitute for a year of experience. MPH preferred: Masters level degree may be acceptable in behavioral science, anthropology, statistics or health research field Experience with SAS, Microsoft Access and Excel.

Knowledge Skills Abilities: Knowledge of epidemiology principles and methods and related biostatistics, principles of surveillance data evaluation, research methods and design, and principles of descriptive and analytical statistics. Strong verbal and written communication skills, and knowledge of scientific, technical, and grant writing. Position requires knowledge of the principles of disease surveillance and infectious diseases. Possess the ability to give presentations to professional and lay groups. Knowledge of methods to secure data and maintain confidentiality. Job Description:

The Lifespan Health Research Center (LHRC) at Wright State University’s Boonshoft School of Medicine is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending upon qualifications.

This is a full-time research position.

The successful candidate will have research interests and training that complement and/or augment those of the current faculty (e.g., epidemiology, genetic epidemiology, human biology, anatomy, physical anthropology, exercise science, biostatistics or a related field).

The LHRC conducts large, primarily family- and community-based studies of complex disease risks. These include cardiovascular disease, hypertension, obesity, type II diabetes, osteoporosis, and osteoarthritis. In particular, much of the research conducted at the LHRC is on early precursors of adult onset diseases using data from the Fels Longitudinal Study.

Education and Experience: The successful candidate will have a terminal degree in their field (e.g., Ph.D., M.D., etc.), and at least one year of postdoctoral training.

For a position at the Assistant Professor level, the successful candidate must have a beginning record of publication demonstrating excellence in research, and a record of grant funding commensurate with their career stage (e.g., pre- and/or postdoctoral research funding, young investigator award, etc.).

For a position at the Associate Professor level, the successful candidate must have an established record of publication demonstrating excellence in research, and a record of grant funding commensurate with their career stage (e.g., NIH R01 award). Also, they must currently be ranked as an Associate Professor, or currently have at least four years of experience as an Assistant Professor.

A major focus of the group’s work is in using automated administrative and electronic medical record data from health plans and large group practices. There is a special emphasis on developing and using multi-center data resources to support this research. The department’s faculty often work in the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care environment, with other Massachusetts and national health plans, and the HMO Research Network, a group of 14 HMOs committed to public domain research in the United States. The faculty also has strong collaborative relationships with Boston’s largest fully computerized multi-specialty group practice, with which it collaborates on research, teaching, and clinical practice. The department seeks an Instructor or Assistant Professor who can develop an independent program of research, and also participate in ongoing research endeavors. Demonstrated expertise in designing and leading large database studies and good leadership and collaboration skills are essential. The mission of the Health Services Research (HSR) department is to support the Commercial Business and Established Markets and Government Business and Emerging Markets business units by conducting research that improves the outcomes, quality, access to, and cost and utilization of health care services. HSR achieves this mission through health services research designed to (1) improve clinical practice, (2) improve BCBST's ability to provide access to and deliver high quality, high-value health care, and (3) provide policy makers with the ability to assess the impact of system changes on outcomes, quality, access, cost, and use of health care services. The candidate chosen for this position will serve to support the mission of the HSR department.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will work closely with senior researchers and HCS staff to support the HSR mission through the following major activities:

• Provider Profiling
• Clinical Program Evaluation
• Population Assessment
• Statistical Analysis
• Outcomes Assessment
• Report Development
• Assist the senior researchers with developing the above-mentioned activities and programs.
• Be responsible for maintaining production of reports related to the above-mentioned activities.
• Produce visual explanations and conduct analyses on all reports related to the above-mentioned activities.
Qualifications
• Minimum acceptable qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a quantitative/research discipline and two or more years of managed health care experience or an advanced degree in a quantitative/research discipline
• Have some experience in the application of modern statistical design and analysis techniques to health-related data
• Have a strong interest in statistical and research methodology
• Strong abilities in the use of SAS and other computational software for statistical analysis.
• Teamwork and leadership qualities are a plus.

Investigator (physician / epidemiologist) with a highly active infectious disease and cancer epidemiology research program is seeking an epidemiology PhD or equivalent. Current projects include: Natural history of HPV/cervical neoplasia in the largest cohort study of HIV+ women; HLA and HIV/HCV/HBV/HPV natural history; Factors influencing viral pathogenesis; Insulin/IGF and risk of cancer; Molecular epidemiologic methods. The position will involve participation in working groups and multicenter studies, epidemiologic analyses (with biostatistical and programming support), writing papers, project management, and development of new studies. A portion of work time can be protected for education, and/or development of grant applications, with the goal of an independent research career. The position includes four weeks annual paid vacation, and excellent benefits. The Department of International Development, Community, and Environment (IDCE) at Clark University seeks to fill a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in its Environmental Science and Policy Program to begin in Academic Year 2009-10. Excellent teaching skills and research record are required. The successful candidate should be able to teach courses supporting undergraduate and master’s level programs in environmental science and policy, preferably in such areas as: epidemiology, public health policy, environmental and community heath, and global health. A doctoral degree is required. A successful candidate will have a disciplinary or interdisciplinary degree with a focus on health and environment, a strong background in science, and a demonstrated interest in policy and social change.
